Buchanan's Birthplace State Park — Attraction in Peters Township

Not really anything there other than the monument and some picnic tables, but it's worth stopping by to see the monument. The woods are scenic and on a hot summer day it's not a bad spot for a picnic. It's at the top of a mountain so the air is a bit cooler there than at ground level. Want really a James Buchanan fan until I visited his birthplace just outside Mercersburg PA. I was surprised by some of the details about both his personal and political life. Be sure and visit Mercersburg Academy and take a look at the cabin where he was born.
