Trail info updated at end of review. Had already gone to the east shore of this beautiful lake, which is wonderful but has VERY limited parking. This side of the lake has much more parking, I'm guessing 40 spaces. We have gone on a couple of the trails and LOVE coming here. There was a sign at the beginning of the trail that goes around the West lake that stated there was "UNEVEN Surfaces" (see photo, it's the trail that has a bench and a little bridge at the beginning)- it was perfect LOL. We didn't realize it the first time we went on this trail IT SPLITS... If you keep hugging really close to the water MOST of this trail was covered with tree roots, If you stay to your right the path is wider and smoother. I loved every inch! There where several lovely strong benches mostly on the trail close to the water to take advantage of the view. . The sign stated that there was a paved trail too...the Arrowhead Trail....that is a trail that goes to the east side of the lake - it crosses the lake at the top of the West Parking Loop it is very wide and paved. Great place to watch/listen for birds, and wildlife, spotted a little ribbon snake last time. The walk completely around the lake will take you less than an hour, leisurely 40 minutes. There is a trail that goes from a small set of stairs by the second set of parking space to the beginning of the West entrance of the Arrowhead trail If you start by the stairs the trail continues up hill a little and had several fallen trees across the path. Just before the end of trail (beginning if you started by the Arrowhead trail). There is a fire pit surrounded by benches made by scout troops. Which makes me want to send out a shout of gratitude to all the people who have had a hand in making this an awesome place for both people and pets😁. Every person AND dog we have seen at this park looks like their having the time of their lives. There is a trail that starts at south side of the divide between the two lakes. We decided to ventured onto it thinking it went around the East lake, see photo... but could not make it around that lake....see photos....it is marked. "trail" when you get to the cat tails but we only got about 20 feet beyond that marker.

So, was down in Canonsburg for my son's lacrosse thing. Of course, being the dog mom I am, the pooches came with. Dropped my son off and looked for something to do with the dogs. Simply Googled "where to walk dogs near me" and Peters Lake Park was the closest. So we headed out. Easy, hardly any traffic, kind of drive. The map said it was close but I was in the middle of a neighborhood. Kept following directions and got to the park entrance. Unless you know where to go, not sure you'd just happen across it. Plenty of parking. Got out and we started our walk. The well-kept path / road takes you back into some woods but runs parallel with the lake. There were a ton of dogs and people fishing, everything was clean. But what totally surprised me is how nice everyone was. Everyone I came across said hi, asked about the girls, let their dogs say hi to mine. It was really nice to chit chat and not get any weird looks for being nice. I believe the path goes all the way around the lake. However, it was getting warm and the girls needed to cool down. Have to say I was really happy I went.

We were looking for a place nearby our hotel to take our golden retriever for a quick swim and this place came up when I googled pet friendly beaches. It's a nice, but small park with a lake so clearly you need to get there early on the weekends if you want a spot near the shore. We finally found a spot for him to take a dip but it was less than ideal since it was at the end of a wooded path and the bank of the lake wasn't easy to get in and out of not to mention all of the downed trees in the water but it got the job done. Lots of fishing and boating going on here and seems to be a great local park. As we were walking around the lake I noticed that there was a bird feeder hanging in a tree and underneath there were several chipmunks which absolutely made my evening, it's the little things that make me happy.

This place is a hidden gem. I have lived in the South Hills all my life and never knew it was here. Walking around the trail will take about an hour. Mainly well maintained, but there are a few spots that are over-taken by roots that could make it hard if you have trouble walking. All flat areas. One main ramp for kayaking and canoeing. Lake is plenty big so you won't have a problem getting in. Water is DEEP, so just be mindful if that would make you nervous. GREAT picture spot for fall.

Great location for fishing with kids and exploring the outdoors with kids. No motorized boats allowed on the lake - plenty of kayaks and similar non-motorized boats were present. Walking trails around the lake and along the access road. Port-a-johns available in the parking lot and picnic tables are located at some spots. Lake has small trout and sun fish that I saw. Plenty of ducks, turtles, frogs and a few snakes. Hidden away gem that is great for walking, light fishing and family time.

Peters Lake Park is one of my favorite local parks. Located in Peters Township, Washington County, the park features a large lake with hiking trails around it. The trails go through woods and cross wooden bridges built as a result of Eagle Scout projects. Fishing and kayaking are favorite pasttimes here. In the winter, you might even see people ice fishing or ice skating. This place is a gem any time of year!
