Great trip for kids, or adults that just like railroads, this narrow gauge train takes you on a short trip stopping at a scenic spot along the Sandy River as well as a rebuilt railroad house.

The track is about a half a mile long. The train will take you to the end of the line stopping for about 15 minutes giving you time to explore or listen to a brief presentation.

A second 15 minute stop is made on the way back at a the railroad house. In this area are several old railroad cars, cabooses, and old pump cars, one of which can be tried out.

There are short trails along the river to explore and a small building at the end of the line that serves as a nice museum with old railroad photos and artifacts.

Beautiful trip...

Such a fun activity to do with kids. We took our 2 kids (4 and 2 year olds) and they loved it! Rode the train and stopped off by the river. They threw rocks for a bit and had fun exploring. The round house was super interesting too. They had a few hand carts we could operate ourselves and an awesome Blacksmith shop with demonstrations and cool handmade stuff to buy. Everyone was so friendly! Also, a bonus, we came mid-June, and there were tons of wild strawberries that we could...

We took the night train which runs once a year, I believe. It's lit by oil lamps in the beautifully restored coach, which offers quite a unique experience, and really feels like stepping back in time. Partway through the ride, they stopped the train to let us switch to the open air car, where we could lay on our backs and look at the stars while the train moved. The volunteers who make this experience possible are the best, and they are extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and...

The ride is about 6/10th of a mile one way. You go backward one way and forward coming back to the station. There are picnic tables at the end. Since you can ride all day with your ticket, you can enjoy your lunch and take another train ride back. There's also a trail that goes along the river. The information given was great, too. I had a lot of fun!
