I've been to 60 Missouri State Parks and Historic Sites, hiking at least one trail in each park/site, and this is the worst trail/park of them all. The trail is in poor condition with debris and overgrowth - and all forms of unavoidable poison ivy everywhere. There are areas where the trail is overgrown, and the noise of heavy machinery operating was constant throughout the hour and 45 minutes of my hike. Then there were the wooden bridges which have seen better days - one had a board missing, presenting a clear and avoidable safety hazard. On top of all that, I originally parked just to the side of the vault toilet and, within seconds, moved my car to the other end of the parking lot. This was a mild day with 10 mph wind, so stench should not have been a problem. I don't know why this park/trail isn't being maintained but maybe it's time for Missouri to divest itself of this one. Perhaps one of the many mountain bike groups in Missouri would take it on. It would certainly be a great spot for it, and one of the bike groups would be able to care for it so that more could enjoy a trail that obviously is not being...
Read moreModerate hiking trails along the face of Crowley's Ridge. The first part of the trail is well marked and appears to be well maintained. There are benches along the path for a quick rest/reflection. The fall colors and the way the light filters through is close to spiritual. However, was quite disappointed on the return leg, which is mostly along the top of the ridge. The path was poorly marked and wound up walking along the boundry between the peach grove and tree line for a short distance. I still don't know where I was supposed to go. Spotted a bench in the trees and picked up the trail again at that point. Again the trail led me out to the clearing and directed me back to the woods/trail that was marked off with barbed wire. Ended up just walking along the tree line until the private drive. As one previois reviewer said, bit of an uncomfortable walk down the drive with their penned up dogs barking. Overall a good experience, and now I know what to expect. Total trail 2+ miles bit did stop to take lots of pics. Took me about 2 hours...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I went to hike here. It's a nice park with a shaded gazebo and onsite restroom. Beech Tree Trail has lots of nature and some interesting things to see along the way. It also has benches in a few areas along the way if you need to sit and rest. The trail is 2.25 miles long and it took us a good 2 hours, give or take some, to finish the trail, granted we had three dogs with us. Some areas are somewhat washed out due to excessive rain. The trail can be rough at times and be prepared for many inclined areas. This hiking trail is definitely not for beginners. We definitely recommend wearing comfortable clothing and shoes and definitely bring something to drink. Other than that, it's a nice place to visit and is located directly across the highway from Bader Peaches in...
