As you step onto the wooden path at Sweet Arrow Lake County Park, the forest around you comes alive with the sounds of nature. The gentle rustling of leaves, the distant call of birds, and the soft crunch of your footsteps on the wooden planks create a symphony of tranquility.
The path winds through a lush canopy of trees, their branches forming a natural archway above you. Sunlight filters through the leaves, casting dappled shadows on the ground. The air is fresh and cool, filled with the earthy scent of the forest.
As you walk, you notice the vibrant colors of wildflowers peeking out from the underbrush, adding splashes of color to the green landscape. The path gently slopes downward, and you can hear the faint sound of rushing water growing louder with each step.
Finally, you round a bend and catch your first glimpse of the waterfall. It’s a stunning sight, with water cascading down a series of natural rock formations into a clear pool below. The waterfall is about 12 feet high, and the water sparkles in the sunlight as it tumbles down.
You take a moment to soak in the beauty of the scene. The sound of the water is soothing, and you feel a sense of peace wash over you. You find a spot on a nearby rock and sit down, letting the cool mist from the waterfall refresh your face.
As you sit there, you can’t help but feel grateful for this moment of serenity in nature. The forest, the wooden path, and the waterfall at Sweet Arrow Lake County Park have provided a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of...
Read moreThis place is a sacred gem to me. I have over 20 years of memories of herping, going fishing, or sitting out and talking with friends. It was sold to the County Schuylkill for a pittance and drained so they could "Fix" the breast o the dam and make renovations. While it was drained during several attempts: the aquatic life was decimated, but they had a puff piece in the local Republican paper with one of the politicians walking on the muddy ground.
On that note: they attempted to see if they could dredge it back in the early 00's. Spoiler alert: they could not because of the heavy metal content from years of old-world pesticides like mercury. Would advise against eating anything caught from there.
If you rent the hall/pavilion: be advised they may require to hire their security. Do not use them try to provide your own. When I saw the one they provided at a wedding and a family gathering picnic, he only sampled the food and slept in a corner.
That being said: the work and changes they've done are evident. It is a beautiful by-the-numbers county park. You can finally, after years of not being able to, walk along the falls and see across the lake. There's frisbee golf, long trails, and plenty of access on either side of the shores.
It may take a decent stretch of time before the aquatics are back in action, but the Fish & Wildlife commission will ensure there's something stalked in the area. Go here if you're from the area or driving past, it's a beautiful...
Read moreBeautiful park and trails along the Swatara Creek. Went to play Disc Golf and enjoy the trails. Holes 5,6, 8-18 are well thought out and enjoyable to play.
Holes 1-4 were placed in a low lying marsh area, very soggy and overgrown to the point where we missed hole three. Hole 7 throws across the walking trail uphill and creates a play hazard for players and walkers. The course would benefit greatly from the first four holes being relocated and hole 7 being repositioned.
Suggestions would include utilizing areas on the other side of the park behind the playground equipment, better linking 9-10 perhaps with a short hole returning to tee 10, and possibly another hole between 10-11.
Compliments - hole 8 and 15 across/along the water are delightful and worth the round. 16 is really appreciated for being both an open full power throw and technical with the landscape/water relief pool. 11 is a fun challenge up hill.
Highly recommend the park and 90% of the disc...
