I wish I could give this state park negative reviews due to their poor customer service. We booked our reservation as Wyoming residents in May, thanks covid. Their computer was glitched WELL before the Fourth of July weekend we were told by the camp host, putting campers in tent spots. She told us their plan was to handle it when the problem arrived instead of calling everyone with glitched reservations to see if they needed a different spot, they let us all show up. The sad part is we were next to the group shelter with plenty of space for a camper, they told us there would be a group and we were in the was. But we were thee until 4 with no one around. We drove 4 hours to from Cheyenne to be turned right back around if we didn’t want to pay NON RESIDENT fees to park BEHIND over flow parking in a field with no shade for our children or dogs in 90+ degree weather. The park supervisor Wade was the one who told us it was $15 a night if we were from Cheyenne. The camp host even told us, that there were multiple people violating camp spots by having more than 2 camping units in a spot ‘but apparently the rules only applied to us’. All they could say was they couldn’t be held responsible for a computer glitch they were aware of. Will never spend my hard earned money at KEYHOLE ever again, I would suggest curt gowdy, glendo, anywhere but keyhole. I ALSO wanted to mention that NO ONE at the park could give us a straight answer if keyhole reservoir was one with blue...
Read moreSuch a great park. We stayed in Tatanka campground on the east end of the reservoir. We were in tent site #42. Great view of the reservoir, close to potable water and bathrooms. Also like the fact that showers ($0.50/3 min) are nearby, and they have warm water! There is a nice little beach just down the main road about 2 mins away). Nice sandy bottom and the water is nice and cool. It was 95 when we were there, so the cool water was welcome. Also like the fact that Pinehaven is about 12 mins away. There is a small market that has assorted items to supplement your camping needs. The only complaints I have is an active fire ban in place which prohibits camp fires in the fire rings. That's not the park's fault. In fact, the rule is no visible flame allowed. We used a camp chef with a grill box, and that was ok. Just as long as you cannot see the flame, you'll be ok. My second complaint is dogs are not allowed on the beach. Really?! Since we brought our pooch camping, that meant someone had to stay back at the campsite with the dog. Kinda lame. But overall, it was a good time. It's a long way, so I don't know when we will be back. Glendo has a better beach and is half the distance, but then again Glendo has raccoons and so many flies. Keyhole really didn't have many bugs. There were ants and gnats, but not many flies and...
Read moreOur biggest issue with this park and apparently all Wyoming state parks is that you have to pay double the rate if you bring in an extra car that is not being towed. If the same extra car is towed behind your RV, it's included in your regular camping fee. Sound confused? We were too, so we asked multiple park employees at two different parks. That is the rule. So, instead of paying $17 a night for water and electric, we ended up paying $34 a night only because our extra vehicle wasn't being towed. They have built showers near the entrance to the Tatanka loop, but they are pay showers which cost 50 cents every 3 minutes. There is a change machine located on the outside of the building. Our site was uneven. It hadn't rained in a long time so it was very dusty. The lake was beautiful! And it was fairly quiet during the week we were there. It is a good ways from things, with a small (limited stock) grocery store about 12 minutes away. Cell signal for AT&T was showing on the map as 4G LTE, but we were lucky to get 2 bars of regular 4G and it was not very reliable especially on the weekend when the campground had more people. We did get to see mule deer, pronghorn antelope and magpies for the first time. We won't stay again and will probably avoid Wyoming State Parks all together unless we end up towing our...
