Hi,I admit we missed the sign that said the trail is closed. Because of this my husband and I was verbally accosted and felt threatened with the park Rangers golf cart (he wanted to drive the golf cart behind us on way back, I felt uncomfortable with this so I went to walk behind the cart..... this seemed to Set Him Off.) (the park didn't close for 15 minutes). °The date of THIS incident is November 6th 2022 we were there just before just before sunset so we could enjoy part of the "now earlier" sunset before going to take care of my husband's elderly mother who lives nearby.( I am also a nurse and a member of this community and will not be treated poorly. )As we turned around to leave the park ranger kept looking in the golf cart mirror at me and asked me twice if I had "a problem" .... The answer is that I Do have a problem with how my husband and I were escorted out of the park* even though it was 15 minutes before it closed. READ°°°° As we were leaving the boardwalk and I was now behind the golf cart he proceeded to turn it off and on and choke us out with his diesel fumes. He did this 3 times times on the way back to to the beginning of the trail. BTW we absolutely love the park. It's the park ranger we have issue with. I will be filing a formal complaint because I felt scared and did Not have a good rest of the evening after the incident.....thanks for taking...
Read moreUPDATE: 4/13/25 well the dog urine is stronger than ever that's all I saw were people walking dogs which is fine but as I'm walking the trails there's just piles of dog crap everywhere from the entrance back to the parking lot you don't see the little ground creatures anymore like you used to the little mice and squirrels and stuff either I see why Weeden Island prohibits dogs. There are so many beautiful dog parks in the area why they got to come here and ruin this idk and I love dogs. Update: 7/2024 as I'm walking along the concrete sidewalk pads all I can smell is dog urine when I park the car in lot, smell is dog urine. Along the brand new rebuilt boardwalks, signs says no dogs. Very strong dog urine everywhere. So sad & gross. 😞The first park I visited when I got here in 1998 & still my favorite. Don't forget bug spray! The trails are fantastic and shady. So much wild life! If you bring your dog watch for gators. Don't walk them along the water line and all will be fine. Peacocks in the neighborhood on the way in are a riot. Look for wild Oscar fish down by the little water spill way at the north end...
Read moreMy recent visit to Sawgrass Lake Park left me with mixed feelings. On one hand, the natural beauty of the park is undeniable. The abundant wildlife and the serene surroundings are a testament to the park's potential. However, my experience was somewhat dampened by the fact that a significant portion of the trail has been closed for an extended period. This limitation made it difficult to explore the park fully and enjoy all it has to offer.
The open sections of the park were still enjoyable, with the observation towers providing stunning views of the lake and the wildlife. The informative signs along the trail added an educational element to the visit, which I appreciated.
I hope that the closed trail sections can be reopened soon to allow visitors to fully appreciate the park's beauty. Once that issue is resolved, Sawgrass Lake Park has the potential to be a top-notch destination for nature lovers and birdwatchers. Despite my mixed experience, I would still recommend a visit, especially if you're patient and willing to explore the open areas...
