My son and I are experienced riders. We have logged thousands of miles on many trail systems . Hatfield McCoy is not a trail system for inexperienced riders. If your intention is to ride through the system in it's entirety, be prepared for some rugged and challenging terrain. Winches , tow straps , four wheel drive and skills are a must on the tough trails. Don't underestimate these trails and don't overestimate your skills, or you will be sadly disappointed.
That being said, it's a beautiful trail system for a properly prepared rider, on a good machine with ample skills.

We found some very nice focal points along the trails and the were nice and wide and well maintained also. There were some technical sections on the green trails due to heavy rains that made them a little bit of a challenge. They are well visited but not crowded. At least not during the week.
