A tough old girl that floated right off of her abutments in a flood in 1927 and wound up intact a mile away in a field. The good local folks drug her back to her spot over the Otter Creek. I didn't check, but it's probably a safe assumption that they installed iron "float anchors" on her after that. She's closed to vehicular traffic and seems to have suffered recent structural issues given the large reinforcement beams with large gusset plates at her approach end. She is still a beauty, though. A Town Lattice Truss built in 1842 with canted portals and several windows. The use of both round and squared "trunnels" is interesting. Well worth the visit on our bridge tour.

Unfortunately there is some graffiti defacing the (unattended) entryway to this bridge but the bridge itself has been respected (and the graffiti, innocuous); the site is well worth the visit for those interested in covered bridges: nicely restored with pedestrian walkways and wheelchair ramps, nice views of the Otter Creek, and a fascinating glimpse at what the roadway may have looked like 100 years ago when the bridge handled carriage traffic (but I 'm told it also handled cars until recently). Plenty of parking and an informative historical marker. We'll done, State of Vermont! Thanks for preserving this 1840's bridge.

Can walk across to nowhere... Can no longer drive across it. Depot bridge is close by and more interesting...
