Used to be the best park in NJ, until they started charging you $60.00 a season to launch your boat. ITS THE STATES FAULT, I KNOW. WAS CHRISTIE ON THE BEACH OR IN A BOAT?
Then there are all the boaters now that have no clue about "Launch Ramp Etiquette".
Pre-launch area: (Before you back up to launch your boat)
Get everything together that you are going to take with you.
Undue all tie downs & straps.
THEN back up to the launch ramp, unload your boat & tie up and go park your vehicle, so the next person doesn't have to wait.
It should not take more than 5 minutes to launch a boat on a trailer. Check out YouTube: a 35 footer, ramp launching into salt water (CURRENT & WAVES), from a trailer, in less than "5" minutes! He's got it down to a science. Every one could do this. No excuses necessary.
Kayakers should place their boats to the side & not tie up the boat ramp.
EXAMPLE: (7/28/19) - SUV UNLOADING KYAKS: PARKED SIDEWAYS BLOCKING THE RAMP. UNLOADED SUV (TONS OF STUFF) THREW KYAKS DOWN FROM ROOF RACKS. STOOD AROUND WAITING FOR AN AUDITION ON: HOW TO NOT USE A BOAT RAMP & HOW TO BE INCONSIDERATE OF YOUR FELLOW BOATERS. UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!
BOAT RAMPS ARE FOR UNLOADING BOATS ONLY, not for parking, group meetings and passing the time of day.
This "1" ramp has to accommodate all boaters. Everyone Needs to Cooperate and be Considerate of others, just like on the highways.
THE STATE PARKS need to educate boaters about using the boat ramp.
PLEASE PUT UP A BOAT RAMP SIGN TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ON USING THE BOAT RAMP AND ANYONE TYING UP/BLOCKING THE BOAT RAMP, WILL BE SUBJECT TO A $200.00 FINE.
PARK GUARDS NEED TO MONITOR THE BOAT RAMP, SINCE BOATERS ARE BEING CHARGED TO USE IT AND ISSUE TICKETS WHEN BOATERS ARE TYING UP OR BLOCKING THE RAMP. TWO TRAILERED BOATS CAN BE UNLOADED AT THE SAME TIME IF PEOPLE WOULD BACK UP STRAIGHT IN HALF OF THE RAMPWAY.
THE FINES WILL PAY FOR THE SIGNAGE & PROBABLY BE ABLE TO BE "GOLD-LEAFED".
OR A BETTER IDEA:
The park should create a separate launch area for non-trailered boats. There are plenty of places for this. They don't need to use a boat ramp to simply "drop it in the water". Should Only Be For TRAILERED BOATS.
I'M SURE ALL YOU GUYS WITH TRAILERS, PAYING $60 BUCKS A SEASON, WOULD APPRECIATE THIS!
Be a Good Boater. REMEMBER;
WERE ALL IN...
Read moreParvin State Peak is, indeed, a beautiful park for hikers/walkers and nature lovers alike. However, my review is about cabin reservations. Those in charge of reservations at Parvin State Park ought to be fired, or at least ashamed of themselves, although I sadly feel assured that neither will happen.
Some mutual friends had reserved two cabins for a weekend in May and October this year. (They have been renting cabins at Parvin for a few years now.) They made their reservations last year for this year, early enough to assure getting one, as the cabins go fast. There were no problems at the time of making the reservation and the proper amounts were withdrawn from their bank accounts for both cabins and both weekends. We went there in May, no problems.
When we went there in October (yesterday, as of this writing), it turned out that both cabins had been rented to other parties. Two cabins rented, paid in full, and expected to be waiting for us had been rented to other parties.
All of the planning everyone had to do prior to this weekend, including taking off from work (with monies that could have been made not being made), and the money spent for food was just shot in the you-know-where. Most of us traveled 30 miles or more to get there.
To begin with, bumping people out of reservations should not happen. Yes, it has happened -- according to a park police officer, this has happened before -- but it should not. You paid for it, you should get it. Period. My friends received absolutely no notice from Parvin in any way, shape, or form about their actions. Their monies were taken, and they have to get a lawyer now the get reimbursed, but the cabins were not delivered.
If this is what people looking to reserve cabins -- people who have reserved there before -- have to deal with, then no one should reserve cabins there. Perhaps the same is true for the campsites as well, I don't know for certain, but a reservation is a reservation.
Very unethical in its business practices, Parvin State Park is to be avoided...
Read moreGERMAN ROACHES IN CABIN 1: I really wanted to enjoy this place, especially as it is a state park. We arrived in cabin one and the first thing I saw it was a roach belly up in the kitchen. I tried not to think much of it, and cooked dinner. Later in the evening more roaches, German Roaches, began to emerge. I understand it’s a cabin but German roaches are unexcitable. They came from under the fridge, under the lament flooring and from behind the counter. We threw our luggage in the car to avoid hitch hikers and slept with the lights on. (As a former Alaskan it is INSANE that I put my food in the car to keep safe from the ROACHES when bears regularly destroy cars for ‘tidbits’). I really wanted to love this place. Getting info for metal detecting is difficult. We tried in advance to communicate with the supervisor to obtain a metal detecting permit but all of my calls, emails and messages were ignored. When we arrived we were informed that metal detective is ONLY allowed on the beach. Ouch. Small territory for anyone wanting to responsibly relic hunt. At this point I didn’t even bother to try and fish. I think they are really underfunded which is sad because it is a great place. At one point the cabins here were probably outstanding. Today cabin 1 seems to be loaded with mold, holes in the walls, and all manners of pests based on underfunded neglect. I bet they only are cleaned once a year. Our bathroom even had a hole in the floor. It seems as though Even the rangers have lost their passion. RANGERS SHOULD BE TREATED WITH THE HIGHEST ESTEEM AS THEY ARE THe ‘VEIL’ BETWEEN US AND THE WILDERNESS. I would have stayed for the adventure on the edge of the pine barrens if the place didn’t reek of employee defeat…and roaches. Totally sucks and I hope the Forest Department sees this to understand that they are actually pissing on a gold mine. Parvin State Park...
