Local must see!
My husband and I were on our way back from our 30th anniversary trip when we decided to stop by the convention and visitors bureau. We have passed this so many times as we live in Pennsylvania, but are always down in our hometown of Clarksburg.
This is such a beautiful building and inside is everything you need to find your way around Marion County, local history, and other great places in West Virginia.
We found out while there that they had brochures for a Marion County Geotour. Being big Geocachers, we definitely wanted to check this out. You were able to earn a coin at the end if you finish at least 16 of the 20, which we did. This Geotour was a little bit different than others we have done. When I say that it took some time to get through these caches, I am not lying. All of them were some kind of a puzzle that was related to the place they were at. It definitely took you to all the highlights of the county so if you are looking to see some of the biggest, most fun things in the area, this Geotour map will get you there through the geocaching app. A lot of times you just have to find the cache and itâs fairly quick, but these were definitely something you had to think about and a ton of fun! Each one of them challenged us and we still have four more that we would like to get to completely finish the tour, but did earn our coins for the required 16 of 20.
We also found the books for the pepperoni roll tour and grabbed those up as well. We did both of these tours on Fatherâs Day weekend as per my husbandâs request.
While you are at the visitors bureau, be sure to check out the history of the area. Pepperoni rolls of course, were invented here. We have had filming that has happened here. One of the larger films is âFeast of the Seven Fishesâ which is an amazing Christmas movie that we love to watch each year since it premiered. My husband has a connection to that movie as the director is married to one of his high school friends.
Outside, you can just sit and relax in the rocking chairs. Across the street behind the wall, is an amazing Vietnam Veteranâs Memorial that is a must see.
The girl who welcomed us was very professional and friendly. She was knowledgeable of things in the area and was excited that we found something to do with the Geotour and the pepperoni roll tour.
They also have some great postcards that you can pick up free of charge.
