This use to be my 5.5 star place to ski after I retired. Loved the weekdays, early in the morning, got to check out my horrible ski technique on freshly groomed hills while riding the chair back up the slope. Big + was when I started to get senior rates. It use to be ski free most of the time but there are so many old foogies now they make them pay on premium days. I won’t ski on chaos days unless my grand kids. are here. I had a 4 year hiatus due to 4 botched knee replacements. After #4, doctors said no more sking because of so much bone loss. I finally gave an impressive biomechanics presentation to my local orthopedic surgeon and he agreed to a knee brace and a 3 point (3 ski) ski bike like the sno-go. Even though it’s an accommodation for my disability Nubs doesn’t like snow bikes so they are banned even for the disabled. Many resorts are allowing this particular design for the disabled because of its stability and ease of control. Nubs should not have advertised disabled accommodations if they get picky about which one they like or don’t like. I was dealing with an operational manager at nubs. I hate to have to start an ADA (Americans with Disability’s Act) complaint over what is a trivial issue of personal likes and dislikes. You can’t do that at a facility that serves the public at large including the disabled. I’m one old man (77) that likes to ski on sunny weekday morning and I think I earned an accommodation. They don’t have to let every wild eyed adolescent use the device, just the disabled and elderly who have lost strength to use conventional skis. It’s working all over the western states and in our area in Michigan, why not nubs? My disability does not require me to have assistance while sking. This seemed to be another disqualifies. I see it as a simplifier. I get on and off the chair like any other skier. Their vision seems to be severely disabled with several support crew to help stabilize the skier. That doesn’t seem like a deal breaker for someone who had lost 60% of their knee functionality but can limp along unassisted. No more 3 mile jogs, that’s what...
Read moreDespite Skiing not really being my thing, the hills are beautiful and the staff made my experience that much more wonderful.
In the ski rental building, the staff were very helpful. Maddy in particular was a stand-out staff member. She helped my mom calm down from a panic, fixed her boots, and helped reassure her that everything on the slopes was going to be okay. She is the main reason for my writing this review.
Fred, a ski teacher at the resort, was also very kind. He put up with my nervousness very nicely (sorry about that!) and respected my boundaries when we were skiing together. He was also very nice despite me not being the target age for ski classes, since I'm practically an adult. I appreciated his patience.
There is a third staff member I wanted to shout-out, but unfortunately I didn't catch her name. When I met her she had tan skin, dark hair, and was wearing pink-lipstick but I understand that personal style can change a bunch. What stood out to me with her is that she helped me despite seeming to be off the clock, and heading out for the day. I had been trying to take off my ski goggles when I lost my grip on them and smacked them down into my eyes, and she saw me trying to get them off and stopped to help me. None of the other people bystanding even looked up, but she did. I highly appreciate her help, it would have been hard to get my goggles off otherwise.
Thank you to the Nub's Crew for being outstanding! Sorry that I got my review in so late, school...
Read moreA Fantastic Family Ski Experience at Nubs Nob!
We took a day trip to Nubs Nob on Saturday, March 8, and it was an experience we won’t forget! It was my 8-year-old daughter’s very first time on skis, and for me, it had been a whopping 23 years since I last hit the slopes. Let me tell you—skiing is not like riding a bike after that long! I quickly realized that not everyone is a master at being self-taught, so we decided to book lessons.
My daughter’s instructor was Justin and I was paired with Joe. Both were absolute professionals, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. Thanks to her instructor, my daughter loved skiing and is already asking when we can go again. And Joe? He is hands down the most patient man on earth—he dealt with me constantly falling but never stopped encouraging me.
Beyond the great instruction, the entire resort staff was incredible. It felt like a real community—people knew us by name, and there was always someone around willing to help. Ben, JD, Kitty, and Owen stood out as particularly kind and helpful, making the whole experience even better.
If you’re looking for a top-notch family-friendly ski resort, I highly recommend Nubs Nob. And if you need lessons, ask for Justin or Joe—they’re the best! We can’t wait to go back!
