DISC GOLF & CAMPING: First & foremost, this is home to the International Disc Golf Center- there are THREE world-class courses that meander through the woods with partial views of the lake. Well worth the $5 fee. There's a pro-shop with knowledgeable staff and a selection of discs. They give a military/veterans discount. Practice basket out back, and a gazebo for picnic lunch. CAMPING: We've camped in the primitive area four times. It's gorgeous and $10/night. We've always found a space with a fire pit and picnic table, right on the lake. A couple of spots give you an amazing view both east and west. Camp on the north side for some amazing sunsets! The bathrooms are clean, and there's also a playground you can walk to that is well-lit at night. On busy weekends, you may be sharing the beach with day-trippers, and you may hear other campers at night enjoying music and having a good time. (It's never been too loud or obnoxious). As far as I know, foraging for firewood is fine (we always do). If it's been wet, you can get a nice bundle for $6 at the Pollard's Corner gas station. ** to clarify some other reviews: After the office is closed, the 'honor system' is in effect, just like any other park you'd pay to camp in. That means you're expected to leave the fee and take a pass. We've never been bothered by any golf cart 'gestapo'. Golf carts may be around after dark, but they'll merely do a drive through to make sure everything's cool and everyone has a pass. They've never approached us, or my vehicle. In the morning, you'll see workers change out the trash bags, and they're always super nice. As for the 10 pm bedtime, nobody has ever told us to 'go to bed'. We have enjoyed many a night star-gazing around the fire...
Read moreService Dogs - the staff and law enforcements are very friendly and professional. Although the public who do not know the federal laws about service dogs can be very upsetting; especially when they approach you, stand near you within 20 feet, start taking pics or videos of you, tell you that there is a sign that says no pets or dogs, and won’t leave you alone - even after you ask/tell them to get away from you. Not once did she ask me if my dog was a Service Dog; I came out and told her my dog was. I told the woman I was going to call the police if she didn’t leave me alone, but she ended up calling the police on me for having my Service Dog. The law enforcement did come out, approached me, and asked if my dog was a Service Dog. Even though I had all the markers, ID, tags, and medical documents, I didn’t have to show the police. It would be a 5 Star if the sign stated Service Dogs Allowed. I shouldn’t be harassed or feel discriminated...
Read morePark is really nice. Disc golf courses are amazing! However, this is place in not very primitive friendly. First, started when I called and asked if they had sites available. "All booked up sorry!" Is what I was told. I almost got a hotel instead which is not what I wanted to do at all. Luckily I had some friends that told there were tons of space available. So I went anyways and was able to go and camp. Second, problem with this place...... Primitive camping has no shower houses. Ok, I have never camped at a park that did not have bath houses. ESPECIALLY in the primitive camping area. Come on, a park of this caliber should have showers. Lastly, the site hosts are NOT friendly at all. Making it pretty hard for anyone to enjoy themselves. Overall, I would've rather paid the extra for a hotel 25 minutes away and drive back and forth for three days for a top level disc...
