This was a great trail with a fantastic payoff at the end with Glacier Lake. It is a spectacularly beautiful, pristine alpine lake somewhat off the beaten path. The trail itself is about 1.8 miles the lake per my Garmin, and has three log bridges to span the outlet creek. The bridges aren't too difficult, although they are 12 - 20 feet long, and shouldn't be tried if you don't have reasonable balance. You have to hike back the same way you came in---it isn't a loop. Easy ascent with beautiful views switchbacking up the face of the mountain, until you begin to near 6k altitude, then it became knee-deep in wet snow. Soaked my boots and socks to the core. Made the only set of tracks on the trail going further up to Turquoise lake, so I guess nobody had walked this stretch since almost a month back.
Done this hike multiple times in the summer. This place never gets old! One of the best easy hikes in the area that gains altitude instead of staying low in the valley. Just don’t go in middle of dead winter unless you wanna...
Read moreGreat quick hike to Glacier Lake. Went up for sunrise and managed to beat the mosquitoes, but paid the price in spider webs. Mosquitoes were swarming at the lake, but the scenery was worth it. Higher elevation huckleberries are still green, but mid-trail were ripe!
The road up to the trailhead is well defined and can be taken even in compact cars. Only a few spots of washboard before it...
