The Sol Duc Falls Trail in Olympic National Park offers a pleasant hike through the lush forests of the Pacific Northwest. Stretching about 1.6 miles each way, it's accessible and enjoyable for families and hikers looking for a relaxed outdoor experience.

Beginning near the Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort, the trail winds through towering old-growth trees like Douglas firs and western red cedars. The path is well-maintained with gentle inclines, making it easy to soak in the natural beauty along the way.

The highlight, of course, is Sol Duc Falls itself. This impressive waterfall plunges over moss-covered rocks into a striking turquoise pool below. The sound of the cascading water adds to the peaceful ambiance, creating a serene and picturesque setting that's perfect for photography.

Throughout the hike, there are multiple viewpoints where you can admire the falls from different angles, providing plenty of opportunities to capture the beauty on camera. Keep an eye out for wildlife too; you might spot some birds or other creatures amidst the trees.

In summary, the Sol Duc Falls Trail is a great choice for a short and scenic hike in Olympic National Park. Whether you're a nature lover, photographer, or simply seeking a peaceful escape into the wilderness, this trail promises a delightful...

Came here on a Sunday morning, arrived a bit before 7:30AM, parking lot had lots of spaces but already had cars. Did High Divide and 7 Lakes Basin, went clockwise, wasn't too bad in general. Goes up for a while but wasn't super steep, was super cloudy so couldn't see anything (and probably why I gave it 4 stars, couldn't see the view so hard to judge). Went to Bogachiel Peak to hang out and hope the sun comes out but it didn't although there was a bit of clearing of the clouds while we were up there. The walk down was a bit boring after Heart Lake as it was just through a bunch of trees and downhill, was pretty relieved to get back to the car. Didn't see a lot of people, and a lot of backpackers we saw were going the opposite direction. Saw quite a few runners pass us clockwise but otherwise a pretty people-free day until Sul Doc of course. Good hike, long day but good, hope the clouds aren't...

Hiked from Sol Duc Trailhead, to Sol Duc Falls, to Lovers Lane Falls, staying south of the River until hitting the Hot Springs Resort and then back up to the Sol Duc Trailhead. This is called the Lovers Loop. The the parks website state that it is 6 miles total... This is not accurate unless you are a bird flying directly from each point. With all of the twists and turns, inclines and declines, it is certainly between 8-10 miles. I did like the hike. It is beautiful beautiful. If you are just doing it for the falls, then I recommend trailhead, to Sol Duc Falls, to Lovers Lane Falls, back to Sol Duc Falls and back to trailhead. This is the shortest route which is about 3.5 miles "round-trip". If you continue to do the actual Loop, the trails do become more rugged, the scenery stays practically the same and you may loose your lover, especially if they are an...

I parked at the Sol Duc trail head to hike the 18 mile High Divide loop. On the way in to the trail head, be prepared to show your National Park pass (that you can purchase online and print). Once you’re in the Sol Duc portion of the park, the road to the trailhead follows the Sol Duc river. There are multiple pull off points where you can park and look at the river. It’s beautiful and shaded by tall looming trees covered in mosses. It felt magical. If you’re parking at the trailhead just to see the falls, it’s about a .8 mile trek into the woods to see the falls. I suggest going earlier in the day but it doesn’t get as busy as the Hoh rainforest or Lake Crescent. There are pit toilets here as well.

The Sol Duc Trailhead is a pathway to some of the loveliest areas of the Olympic Peninsula, from the famous falls a mile up the road to the solitude and splendor of the High Divide and it's views of the Hoh Valley, Olympus, and the other great peaks of the Olympics. Alpine lakes are in abundance off this 18 mile loop, in addition to lush forests. In spring and autumn mushrooms will abound, while in the summer huckleberries and blueberries dominate the upper slopes of this trail. One of the best trails to experience the diversity of the Peninsula as well as to experience wildlife. And there's refreshing hot springs just down the street when you get back from your hike or backpacking trip!
