Took the 9am Island Packers ferry from Ventura, and this was the dropoff point. Got here around 10:30am, and then there was around 15 minutes of orientation/briefing from a volunteer parks person. Hiked 15.5 miles from here to Prisoners Harbor to catch the 4:30pm ferry back. If you take the trail along the ocean to Cavern Point, it rises 250 feet in less than half a mile, then flattens out for a couple of miles to the Potato Harbor lookout. There's a little garden right where you are dropped off with foxes. Also saw lockers for folks to store food and gear, and folks had brought kayaks with them and were...

Took the island packers boat from Ventura harbor thanks to my daughter. We spent the day on Santa Cruz Island hiking from the scorpion Bay to Smugglers cove. The entire trip was awesome as we got to see several blue and hump back whales on our boat ride. They said this is the most they've seen since 2018. They surrounded us. We also saw thousands of dolphins. I don't know if that is common but they swarmed the sea. We also saw a fox 🦊 on land and a sun fish in the water. So amazing. In total we hiked about 6 miles in the day and made it back in time to catch the last...

Amazing time to go up to Santa Cruz island. Weather was great, the area is green from recent rains and there aren't a lot of people. I recommend the potato trail and then back track and follow the trail back to the campus point trail. It's a lot of ocean views and great views of the bay. After you finish heading back to the campus trail you'll be back at the start. Climb up the path to take the road toward smugglers cove and hang out up there for amazing views. Quite a bit of uphill and approx. 8 miles total to do the path...
