As full-time nomads we volunteer annually at the Padre Island National Seashore. In getting to Coastal Bend area of Texas, a stop at Magnolia Beach has become part of our annual repositioning trip. We really appreciate the community! The community is welcoming and we enjoy pitching in with the locals who have formed a group that consistently cruise the park to clean up. We enjoy the opportunity to rest there for a few days. The restroom & shower facilities are good(though we are self contained). We enjoy the quiet serenity of the community. It is definitely not the place to party it up. People live on the perimeter of the park. At dusk the mosquitos are horrendous!!! If you walk the park during the day you will get bit too, but they really ramp up at dusk, then everyone takes shelter. You can read a historical plague about the area (about parallel to the picnic pavilions) that mentions the tenacity of the mosquitos all the way back to the 1700s when some German immigrants ship wrecked near-by calling the area Indianola (just beyond Magnolia the beach park is still called Indianola). The mosquitos were notable back then for nearly driving them mad and many got ill from the bites. Im not saying illness is an issue now but they are an almost overwhelming nuisance. Still Magnolia is definitely worth a visit for the day...
Read moreI always enjoy coming to Magnolia Beach. I use it as a stopover on my way down to Mission Texas for the winter. It is always clean and has a high quality of camping Neighbors. But I believe that that is simply why I love camping. Campers are just good people! I have never met a bad camping neighbor yet! For the last couple of years since I have been retired I have been doing a lot of boondocking. Boondockers like myself are a slightly different breed than the ones that pursue the lifestyle of the high-end resorts. Yet, the fact still remains the same, they are no different. All campers are just simply good people as I find every one of them in my Journeys. I have owned and operated campgrounds for the last 25 years and could not wait to start full timing! Now I'm living the dream! Just the other night I walked over to visit a camper and was not allowed to leave until I was fed a full spaghetti dinner, my favorite! That's just the way campers are! Genuinely good people, I'd not be going out on a limb to say, the best! Have a fun and safe camping season Wherever Your Travels Take You, and enjoy the good life! Happy...
Read moreI heard of this beach when I was looking for an investment property. I grew more and more curious and finally my husband and I drove out in January. The beach is not large and it's made up of sand and tiny sea shells so I recommend wearing shoes for both swimming and walking on the beach.
There are plenty of fishing piers so if you like to fish, you're going to like it here but the beach also has a swimming section and that's where all of the campers and RV's were at. Honestly it felt like a private beach. There were no huge crowds to have to deal with, but then again it's January so that's probably the reason, but it felt very peaceful and calm. There is no fee to enter, no fee to park, and you can stay on the beach for up to two weeks at no cost to you.
For us it was the perfect shot of vitamin sea that we needed and we look forward to going back real soon. I'll update my review if the summer experience...
