Kouw Park is a beautiful, family-friendly beach spot tucked away in Port Sheldon Township. It’s the perfect place to spend a relaxing afternoon by Lake Michigan without the crowds you usually find at bigger parks. The beach is easy to access with just a short walk from the entrance, and the views are absolutely stunning, especially around sunset.

The park is very well set up for families and group gatherings. There’s a large outdoor pavilion with plenty of benches, giving you a nice shaded area to eat, relax, or take a break from the sun. Several grills are available too, making it easy to plan a picnic or cookout right by the beach. The restrooms are clean and conveniently located near the pavilion, which is great for longer visits.

The beach itself is clean, with soft sand and calm waters that are usually perfect for swimming or just wading along the shoreline. It feels safe, well-kept, and has a peaceful atmosphere that's perfect for kids and adults alike.

Whether you’re looking to swim, have a barbecue, or just enjoy a quiet day by the water, Kouw Park is a hidden gem that's definitely worth a visit. It’s a simple, beautiful place to make great...

Great hidden gem of a public beach, keeping a few things in mind. This is not a space for large groups or spreading out. Erosion has made the shore quite short now, and there are private residences on either side of the narrow beach...around maybe 100 yards. Although it’s public land right by the water, I believe walking along the private beach home shoreline is alright; parking your family there with an umbrella & music, not so much.

TIP— Go before sunset (they close the gates ā€œlock cars insideā€ at 10:00, so be prompt).

TIP— Bathrooms available (perhaps closed off-season) and clean; well lit.

TIP— Great playground for the kids, and pavilion & picnic tables for lunches & gatherings. Enjoy this beach...just don’t tell anyone!

I think this would be a really nice beach, and judging by the other reviews, it seems like it is usually. Today was the first time we visited this specific beach, and we were quite disappointed. The water was FULL of garbage. There was so much plastic and just trash in the swimming area and on the beach. We picked a bunch out but then discovered there is no trash can available on the beach. I can't imagine this is what it's always like with the reviews we read prior. If the township is charging for parking, you would think they can at least have a trash can available that they empty to try and take care of our lakes. The playground was enjoyable and well taken care of. I hope to have a better experience here sometime...
