Do your part, drag the fallen trees to the side. The “don’t ride when wet” is because the wooden features are untreated lumber, it’s not just to hinder your fun in the mud, it’s so you don’t use the attached pic as a slip and slide down a 30 foot slope. Everything back here is pretty fun, there are definitely some sections that are questionable on a bike and some parts I’d just outright classify as tedious, but they’re few and far between and some people like climbing wet, sandy roots for way too long.
The major problem with some of the trails is the wooden features that are in need of repair, though they have signs up telling you not to mess with the trails. There are a few wooden bridges into hinterland with many broken slats, and finding that out in the blind is physically painful. Some other parts of the easier western trails have some warped wooden platforms as well which are extremely sketchy if you’re going the opposite direction, which you may do because it’s more fun to go down wet, sandy roots than it is to climb them.
This has everything from very casual bike trails for beginners to some pretty advanced stuff for more experienced riders. Though keep in mind this is still Indiana, there’s no nutty downhill track here, it’s a lot of climbing at times.
As for the facilities, it’s a quiet parking lot, general sports fields,...
Read moreThis is one of my favorite complexes my son’s team has played so far! The soccer fields are nice with plenty of space for spectators to spread out. The playground is an awesome bonus and was great entertainment for younger siblings who get bored watching soccer all day. All the grassy space to run/walk was awesome! Plenty of parking and easy to get in and out. There’s even a nice sidewalk in between rows which makes backing in and eating from the trunk convenient. One piece of advice - don’t park near the baseball fields unless you want your car hit! We saw at least 6 cars get dinged just while eating lunch. Pizza Terra is nearby and was a great choice to grab lunch. Overall, an outstanding place to...
Read moreImagination Glen has fantastic trails. Unfortunately, the people who frequent it, leave an insane amount of trash everywhere. I have picked up whole 12 pack bottles of beer, a blanket on the trail, countless beer cans and beverage containers, swisher wrappers, whole fastfood bags and styrofoam containers. It's pretty sad that Portage doesn't have someone maintain the trails and those who visit won't use the trash cans provided. It really is a beautiful park and should be better maintained by the city and visitors alike.
2025 Update: I was happy to see that the park has far less trash. There are some trees down that cause visitors to go off trail or avoid certain...
