Sunset Lake Park — Attraction in Portland

This quiet, secluded cove is ideal for parents with small children, water waders, even shell hunters! Shallow waters reach far enough for a child's thrilling adventure and easy access for parents. Relatively clean- folks do your part when you visit-and just a very short walk from the well maintained parking area with one portable toilet. Kayakers found it easy to land and launch here with deeper waters to explore as well. Not the fanciest but certainly relaxing. What a surprise this place is. A little deserted but I didn’t feel too uncomfortable. The walking trail is well traveled. I didn’t go far but it’s definitely on my list for an exercise option. It’s a peninsula with one side that attracts kite and wind surfers and the other side, a beach feel, with the bay waves coming into the shore. I thought it might be a good place to bring the dogs. There's plenty of open area on the bay side to pop up a tent and relax in the calm water.

The ocean side beaches are not very deep in terms of the sand. There's about 10-30 feet of open sand before the water depending on the tide.
