I would rate this lake zero stars if I could, but unfortunately I cannot. My family and I showed up around 1 with the intentions to camp and fish. We paid to get in, and paid for campsite 26 which had the easiest access to the water, and by easiest I mean it was a good hike down to the water through cactus and prickly bushes... to be expected in Texas. We were told they had no idea who was posted up and any campsite and to just "drive around and see what's open" which I believe to be a terrible way to run a lake or park. We taped our pass up on 26 like they told us to but couldn't guarantee that it would still be available if we left. We risked it and went to grab groceries and when we arrived back at our site someone had taken our pass down and were having a picnic in the campsite we paid for. We then spent another hour or so looking for other campsites and found only more people picnicking with no passes posted up. The few spots we did find were completely and utterly trashed from previous campers. The campsites are not well maintained at all, even by the water there was trash floating around. With all of this being said, if you're the type of person that doesn't mind smelling trash around your camp...this is the place for you. Otherwise, I'd advise you go somewhere else and not waste your money. The attendant at the office was nice enough to refund our pass money back but also informed me I'd have to pay per person, not per car! Not....
Read moreBefore we visited I sent an email to request information. My biggest question was if there was a beach area for kids to swim & play at - Never received any response. It's $12 per person (with a Lubbock, TX ID & $13 If you're not from Lubbock) & kids 12 & under are free. Don't pass the entrance by following Google maps - you'll pass it & have to turn around. Look for the flags. This lake is more for people who have boats, enjoy fishing, or want to go for a hike. There are different camp sites on rough roads. In order to reach the beach you'll need to park at a campsite or the parking lot and walk down to it. It honestly looks like a big rock that the kids were to play on. There are multiple boat unloading lanes and a dock...
Read moreGreat little stop for a passers-by camper or even vehicle sleeper. No gate. Self pay station and the camping spots overlooking the lake are only $7. Each spot has a roofed picnic table, and a ground fire pit and a trail down to the lake since the sites are in the hill. At least I assume that they all do. Unfortunately, it appears that people are terrible at littering even though 2 big tashkent cans are provided at the sites. Sad. I'd definitely put on shoes because of all the glass everywhere. :(
Had to trek up here because Lake Colorado City closes. Only rating...
