My dog đ (4 month old puppy) and I were attacked on the small trail at the end of the campground. My dog was torn apart. I had "tooth" marks from my forehead to my ankles. The night before, Friday, September 29th, I had 3 officers and 6 cops surround my vehicle because someone reported my car as an abandoned vehicle!! Least abandoned vehicle in the parking lot!
Pitbull attack. One cop. EMT didn't bother to even look me over. One guy, yelled at me to get up and drive my dog to vet while I am holding in his insides, in total shock!
I say enter and camp at your own risk. I have to get rabies shots. My dog was brutally killed. I fought for my life minutes before he got my puppy. That was another 10 to 15 minutes! One woman helped, she got a stick!
The owner faced no consequences! Camp at your own risk. It was a nightmare for me!!!
Be safe! Live in peace! Rest in Peace, my sweet baby boy
I have no problem with people squatting there for weeks. I have a problem when they own dangerous dogs and no one does anything.

Read moreWhen you are driving on River Road, look for the sign to the C&O Canal National Historic Site, and the road sign for Swains Lock Road. It can be easily missed. Once you turn onto Swains Lock Road, immediately stay to the left because the right is a private property driveway. You will see the No Trespassing sign. Swains Lock Road looks like a one lane road and you will drive pass several beautiful homes, and the road dead ends at Swains Lockhouse and a small parking lot.
I turned left once I got onto the trail, and walked a little over a mile passing mile marker 16 and a building that I'm not sure what it is. Toward the end of the mile, the scenery wasn't too exciting, because there is no view of the Potomac River. When it rained, the trail gets very wet, and my little pups got real dirty. The trail is pretty well kept. I didn't know there are 6 Lockhouse available for rent.
There are also a few Don John's if you are looking...
Read moreReally cool piece of history and a fun âglampingâ type place to stay. There is heating and air conditioning, indoor plumbing, electrical, and lots of kitchen items for cooking. You are encouraged to bring your own water for cooking and drinking. I brought around five gallons, and it was more than enough for three people during a weekend visit.
Guests are required to clean and remove all trash before checking out. This is a trash free park, so youâll need to bring it with you.
There is a fire pit just outside for guest use. We put it to good use roasting marshmallows for sâmores and hotdogs.
While youâre here, be sure to open all of the little doors inside of the cabin and read the plaques for some neat history facts about the C & O Canal and the family that kept Lockhouse 21. Also, donât forget to take a peek outside - just to the left of the front door - where youâll find flood markers stamped with dates, marking...
