Such a shame to be giving a 2 star, as this place was very nice. Nice playground, beach and camp sites. However, VERY disappointed with staff regarding a very scary situation. 10 of us came with 6 little kids all ages 4-7 , we got sites all close so we can run around and be together not bothering other people. First night we got there my friend and I went on a bike ride with my 4 year old son and my friends 6 year daughter. A car came racing through at least 30 mph almost hit my son on his bike, my friend and I both shouted to slow down, which he didn’t and continued driving to his spot. As we were coming back in the loop, the gentleman left his spot again and was racing. He was going so fast that my friends daughter couldn’t get off her bike fast enough and jumped off her bike, left it in the road and he swerved around it to get by. He also squealed off and drove through 2 stop signs to leave the park. I took off and told the front desk as I got his license plate number. 2 other people went to the desk as well both from which were different parties then us. After telling front desk the poor girl who was probably 20 was alone and said she would tell her warden about it, she also told me he drove right passed her full pace over the speed bumps and took off not stoping. Turns out he was visiting the site across us. Nothing was discussed with the people he was visiting and we heard nothing more. The next day he came back visiting his friends in a different car. I went down to the front and informed another girl what had happened and she took down all my info, said she would tell her manager as she wasn’t a manager. The manager and girl came to talk to myself, my husband and my friends husband regarding the incident. We did tell them 2 other parties down the road also saw the incident if they needed more information. After getting all the info and our concerns they left. We didn’t hear anything again after that, nothing was discussed to the man who came EVERY DAY after the incident. I am super disappointed how it was handled as that was very scary for a parent. We camp all summer and we bring bikes and the reason to not worry is there are speed limits and caution. The fact my 4 year old almost got hit and nothing was done is absolutely disgusting. What’s worse is my husband was confronted the last day we were there for having music played 10 min past the “quiet time”. A noise complaint was handled, but not endangered child? The fact that 3 people all different parties not even mine came forward. I have told this story to everyone who asked how my trip was and every single one said they should have been confronted and kicked out. Shame on this place. What are they waiting for a dead child? I am making sure to tell this story on all social media accounts and all friends and families. We are locals and camp a lot. It makes me sad they would blow something like this off. All they had to do was go to the gentleman and tell him it couldn’t happen again or made him at least apologize. Cleaned bathrooms, big spots, playgrounds available or nice beach is nothing if you are scared for drunk drivers. My son didn’t ride his bike the rest of the time and the fact we had to sit across from the gentleman was even worse. Just letting parents know if they go to be aware of surroundings and also if something happens nothing will be handled and there is no authority or management. Unless I guess it is a...

We had a wonderful camping experience at Lake St. Catherine. There are a couple helpful tips to know: the campground is pretty spread out, and most of the sites are plenty roomy. The boat launch allows dogs but the kayak/canoe rentals take place at a day use area, where dogs aren’t really wanted and/or are straight-up not allowed. So keep that in mind if you want to go float about with your furry friend—it’d be best to bring your own boat in this case…we left our inflatable kayak at home but wished we had brought it and I wanted others to be aware of this. We took the last tent-only spot available on a busy but beautiful weekend, having arrived on a Friday night just before the main office closed. We were able to buy ice and an armful of firewood, $11 together. We set up just as it was getting dark but made it just in time. The weather was gorgeous and the lake views are amazing. We saw some local wild critters (bunny and a bunch of cool birds) during a refreshing nature walk, took the time to take in the fresh air, and enjoyed our campsite which was in partial shade (nice for the direct sun at midday). The staff was friendly and we were greeted our night of arrival with enthusiasm and a helpful positive attitude. The park is pet-friendly although there were many barking dogs throughout every one was friendly. The first night we stayed there was a group of folks that were carrying on well past the 10:00 quiet curfew, but camp staff showed up in their gator and took care of that quickly; we never heard a peep after they got spoken to. This is a very family-friendly campground, so if you’re a family of two+a pet, just keep this in mind if you’re looking for a super-removed peaceful experience you may want to consider other smaller rural campgrounds. It didn’t bother us much but that is something to keep in mind. Overall it was a fine sleeping experience and if you’re up before everyone else is you can enjoy quiet walks alone and have the bathrooms all to yourself which is nice. We found a little slice of heaven at our site #23 and will still recommend this campground to those looking in this area. West Rutland is close by and there is a large grocery store to stop at on your way to the park to stock up, but we stopped by at Castleton Village Store and could not be happier with the goodies and treats we bought there for our camping trip. Lake St. C was definitely worth the trip from Home for us and is well worth...

Small lake next to the Town of Poultney, Vermont. This is a okay place to go for the day and soak up the sun, barbecue and play games with the kids. The beach area could use some work...rocky unkept beaches, and sometimes the grass isn't cut. However, I would not recommend camping there. When were camped we were smack dab in the middle of a whole family reunion and all the campers had generators which are fine during the day at specific times but they must turn them off at night, per their rules, but the did not, they ran all day and all night. When we complained to the management they told us they would take care of it but they never did and the management told the family reunion it was US who complained about the generators. So for the next 3 days were spent with constant yelling and harassment from this family reunion, to the point where they wrote on our car windows "GET OUT NOW" during the night with a bar of soap. When we told the management about this they offered to move us to a different campsite which were unacceptable and we were told "Listen, they have been coming here for years!" Then the next night we observed the manager and two of the park employees enjoying a nice sit down with the family reunion! How nice. At this point we were afraid for our safety and decided to leave and we never went back. It would appear this campground caters to the local party crowd with the support of the management. I would not recommend this park for camping for families with...

If you’ve never been, it’s a perfect getaway: 117 acres of space with tent sites, camper hookups, lean-tos, a rentable cottage, and lakeside day-use areas with BBQ grills everywhere you turn. Bonus: a free 18-hole disc golf course, boat and kayak rentals, and a sweet little snack shack to round things out. Here’s a tip if you’re into these kinds of outings: Vermont sells a $30 punch card good for 10 visits to any of their state parks—and it never expires. Otherwise, you’re looking at $5 per person per day. Worth it either way, but the card’s a no-brainer for us. Back to the birds—today’s favorite moment was hearing the Blackburnian Warbler on the hike-and-bird trail. I’ve yet to lay eyes on one, but I’ve definitely got its song burned into my brain now thanks to the Merlin Bird App. We also watched a couple of Veeries near a stream darting in and out of the water for something mysterious—fish? Frogs? Pond salad? Who knows. But they were busy and fun to watch. In just an hour, Merlin picked up nearly 30 different species.

Great camping with spacious campsites. The lake is right there and it's perfect for hot summer days. Facilities are well maintained and park staff is friendly. Unbeknownst to us, there is also a network of mountain biking trails accessible directly from the campgrounds! Endless Brooks Trails and Fairgrounds Trails are an awesome place to go MTB. Fun, flowly, and technical parts! Definitely recommend staying at lake St. Catherine if you plan on hitting these trails!
