We were verbally assaulted by a staff member and told we would be forced to purchase rotten berries. My 5 young children were stalked by a staff member and were very scared after her screaming in their faces. They were polite and responded calmly, we were following all the rules. The toddler had put rotten strawberries from the ground in the basket and we picked them out. This staff member witnessed this and came marching over and started screaming in our faces that we had to purchase what was in our baskets. That “other people would have bought those berries”. I hope no one would buy stepped-on rotten fruit, and I’m certainly not going to. She screamed at me “that I should be watching my child”. I was watching her, that’s how I knew she put them in the basket. Doing nothing but existing as a toddler is a problem for this extremely angry staff member. Being aggressive and screaming at a toddler is unacceptable. The staff member needs anger management classes at a minimum and should not be allowed around children. I kept my composure to model healthy adult behavior in front of children. We gathered ourselves and left immediately, purchasing all of our strawberry baskets. This is NOT a family friendly place. Do not take your family or small children.
This staff member seemed unusually aggressive and was threatening toward my small children. If you do not want to be threatened or screamed at and forced to buy rotten items, then do not go here. You could go anywhere else, pay less, and not be threatened and screamed at. The grocery store for example, or Peach Park right down the road would be great places to purchase strawberries in peace. Please do not go here or use your hard earned money here. Zero stars. We were treated like criminals and we did nothing wrong. ETA: they have blocked my comments on their FB page, which means they are hiding it and it is true. No one has addressed my concerns from this company, they are aware of them. I have filed a police report concerning the employee in case it happens again to anyone else there will be a paper trail. I provided my video of the employee to the police. I’ve contacted the local news as well. I take safety very seriously and this employee is not safe to be around the public. She may become physically aggressive to patrons or become even worse. She was stalking young children. Please be warned. I am a single mother and will choose to support other local businesses with my money, we paid a lot to be there, purchase strawberries, try to have a fun time, support local business, and do manual labor, only to be screamed at and threatened. My children used to love strawberries, and $72+ is not cheap. Go elsewhere. If one person saves themselves from this same problem by reading this, then my review was worth the time to write it. I have written only one bad review before so I hope you (the reader) know how awful this...
Read moreQuick, beautiful drive from B’ham. Plenty of room to social distance from others. Organized and helpful staff who lead you to your own row of strawberries to pick. Strawberries are up on a black plastic raised bed so even my girlie girl daughter wasn’t “getting dirty.” You need to make sure that you can eat or fix the strawberries you get within 2-3 days because there are no preservatives on them and will get mushie. I “triage” them into super-ripe (eat now), ripe (eat tomorrow or make into jam or pie), and light pink (leave out on the counter today and put in fridge tonight to eat in 3 days from now.
The strawberries are superb quality, taste is very flavorful, mostly medium sized (not the giant tasteless ones in summer), not picked by the birds (don’t know how they do this), no bug holes!!!
ALSO!!!! The romaine lettuce is the size of a toddler. They had 3 types of red lettuces Including leafy and butter. The early peaches are ripe and juicy. The green beans were the long, sweet green beans. They also had a great variety of potatoes, green plums, green tomatoes, zucchini, squash, and okra already!!!
Will definitely go...
Read moreThis was my second year going to Sugar Hill U-Pick farms and once again, I was not disappointed! I took a group of friends this time and we had the best time in nature and taking pictures in the fields. I got a nice hefty bucket of strawberries for $13 that made probably about 8 Kentucky bourbon strawberry smashes, have served as toppings for my morning yogurt, and made a whole batch of strawberry-balsamic jam oatmeal bars! They have two swing sets, a sandbox, a myriad of other veggies for sell, t-shirts, sweatshirts, and port-a-potties for restrooms! You should go early and stop by Durbin farms for lunch on your way out! 🍓❤️...
