The worker in the museum portion at the Keepers House was very friendly and knowledgeable and willing to talk to you not only about this lighthouse, but others in our state too. It was really interesting to hear the history lesson and how they worked hard to restore the keepers house and move in replicas or pieces from the correct era. It was really interesting to see the little toilet room. They also have a box here for donations to help support the lighthouse and keepers house.
This lighthouse is the tallest or one of the tallest lighthouses in Michigan that is still climbable today. Only $5 for adults and $3 for children. Your ticket here also allows you to climb the tower at the old lighthouse too. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I had thought the climb would be worse, but it was better than expected. The tower was roomier than some I've been to.
You can actually go outside of the lighthouse at the top. The view is breathtaking, but if you hate heights like me, it's a nightmare. Unfortunately you cannot climb to the very top right now as the top part sustainef water damage after one rain.
A Great experience for the whole family. All the other visitors we met were friendly and...
Read moreThe entire lighthouse area has an ambient vibe filled with greenery, sea-sounds and peaceful vibes that anyone can fall in love with. I visited the new lighthouse where you can see the old lighthouse memories, how lighthouse works in the old days, the history. I also found amazing souvenirs from here which you can buy within 5-10 dollars. I also made a trip to the top of the lighthouse with 9 dollars and it was just worth it! You can see the entire lakeside view 360 degree from it. It was just heavenly up there (attached a photo too). I would definitely recommend everyone to go there if you are near Alpena! Take at least 2-3...
Read moreThe tallest lighthouse in Michigan. This is one we should've visited sooner. We stopped on a small Lake Huron lighthouse tour and were not disappointed.
Helpful and friendly staff. Plenty of parking (at both lighthouses). Gift shop (also at both locations). And some space to picnic. $6 to climb to the top of the lighthouse, and it gets you into both the New Presque Isle Lighthouse and the old one. The grounds around both are free; the area is beautiful and great for pictures. Both are worth visiting. The new lighthouse is a tough one for those with a fear of heights, but the old one...
