Campbell Falls is located off I-77 in Camp Creek State Park, 25 miles north of the state line between West Viginia and Virginia. When driving on I-77, visiting the falls only adds 20 minutes of round trip drive time. The drive ends at a gravel parking lot next to a gated road. A 0.3 mile walk along this flat shaded gravel road takes you to the falls.
The West Virginia Waterfall Trail provides a vivid description of the falls. "With a multitude of shelves, all 15 feet of these cascades pour into an oval pool – the perfect location for fishing or swimming in warmer weather." Some of the falls and most of the stream is shaded by trees during summertime. This makes it a great getaway from the summer heat. The stream bed consists of stone slabs. This makes it shallow (about a foot deep), transparent, and great for an easy refreshing walk. Although it does not accommodate wheelchairs, this waterfall is very naturally accessible. The gravel road is at the same elevation as the top of the falls so many people can easily get close to this water feature. The stones slabs that make up the falls and stream offer a multitude of sitting and standing options. They lend themselves excellently to exploring, picnicking, reading, photographing, or simply basking in the...
Read moreThis waterfall is located in Camp Creek State park located a short drive north of Princeton WV. There are two waterfalls of note there. Campbell Falls and Mash Fork falls. Campbell is the larger of the two. People seem to enjoy camping there although I personally have not camped here. The falls are an easy hike up a gravel road so access is easy. The park has a pretty extensive multi use trail system. They are good for hiking, trail running, and equestrian and are also open for mountain biking. The main 'hazards' along these trails are occasional manure deposits and numerous creek crossings where wet feet are unavoidable. If you are using the trails, it would be wise to pay attention to the weather so you don't get caught in fast deep water if there is a lot of rain. The photos show Campbell Falls at both low...

My daughter is 7, can swim on her own, & loved swimming below the waterfall & swimming. Such a...
