Campground is nice but the reservation system is insane anymore. We have tried to book a cabin now several times for a weekend and literally have been online waiting for when it hits 6am exactly 6 months before the date we want and have not been able to book a cabin at pretty much any park but especially this one. We can't tent camp due to a child's health issues/need for a actual bed currently and its getting absurd. Worse is we have called on weekends we couldn't book to learn that the person who booked had never even showed. People book cabins/yurts to hold them not knowing if they can actually use them those days then just don't show up. We talked to a ranger at lapine state park and they said like 40% of people don't show up. At this point I wish they woukd not just charge the fee that was per night but like 3x the fee per night and maybe people would either stop no showing or at least cancel beforehand so others...
Read morePineville was an amazing magical place my family camped at yearly until a few years ago. As a kid in the 60's i had the honour to meet Simon and Garfunkle at the camp site and mum and I gave the musicians $20 to help with their tour. They proceeded to play a private small concert where we heard for the first time before being recorded the song, The Sound of Silence. I fell madly in love with them and to this day feel so blessed to be one of the first to hear this music in the most breath taking campground under the stars that were blinding they were so bright and so many. I pray for the day to return. I wish to bring my son to continue the legacy as I just lost my mum and dad and our trailer. As i have a progressive disease, Prineville is my healing centre and pray to see it once again. It's magic is powerful and see it in my minds eye. Its mystery always...
Read moreFantastic, well maintained, and well equipped camp ground. The Prineville Reservoir camp sites were clean, had a variety of hookups depending on what site type you book, and had very clean bathrooms and showers available. Not a fisher myself, but heard multiple good reports from the numerous people on the water who were fishing. The reservoir doesn't feel man-made at all, and it stretches for miles. Lots of wake boarding and kayaking. Water felt nice to swim in as well. To my delight, we discovered that this camp ground is a recognized International Dark Sky spot, meaning the especially dark sky is perfect for star gazing. They even have an observation spot with telescopes that they will occasionally open to the public on weekend evenings. Very relaxing area, will be coming back again! Reasonably...
