Great place for a family picnic or a walk for any day at any time. Rock Canyon in Provo, Utah, is a popular hiking destination for both locals and tourists alike. The trailhead is easily accessible from the parking lot, and the hike itself is moderately challenging, with a few steep sections and rocky terrain.
The scenery along the trail is breathtaking, with towering cliffs and a rushing stream that runs alongside the path. There are also plenty of opportunities to spot local wildlife, including deer and a variety of birds.
One of the highlights of the hike is the waterfall at the end of the trail. The waterfall is a spectacular sight, with water cascading down a series of rocks and into a small pool below. It's the perfect spot to rest and take in the beauty of nature before heading back down the trail.
The trail is well-maintained and clearly marked, making it easy to navigate even for those who are not experienced hikers. However, it's important to bring plenty of water and wear appropriate footwear, as the trail can be steep and rocky in places.
Overall, Rock Canyon is a fantastic hiking destination that offers stunning views and a challenging but manageable trail. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or just looking for a beautiful outdoor adventure, Rock Canyon is definitely...
Read moreThis canyon is amazing. Super close to Provo, and some of the best climbing in the world can be found here. The 4th longest sport climbing route in the entire world is located in this canyon. Search squawstruck if you want more information about that. The mountain biking and hiking are both also excellent. I do have some specific recommendations for people coming here.
Parking: The parking lot is located at the mouth of the canyon. There is usually plenty of parking, Saturdays in the summer excepted.
Restrooms: There are male/female restrooms at the mouth of the canyon. These are pretty primitive, so be prepared.
Trails: There is a main trail going up the canyon, with many offshoots. Please stay on the trails and help prevent trail erosion, which is a serious problem here.
Safety: If you are climbing or biking, wear a helmet. It is not worth your life. Way too many climbers run the risk of serious head injury. Climb within your level. Also, exercise caution with the weather. It can get very cold, very fast, even in the summer. You gain altitude quickly in this canyon, and the majority of the trail is in the shade.
All in all, great canyon. Please take good care of it, leave no trace, and we can all enjoy it for...
Read moreLove hiking here. The start of the trail is a little barren, gravel and scrub oak. Can get quite hot in the day. But once you get up into the canyon, only about 1/3 mile from trailhead, it really changes. The canyon narrows, trees start to change. More shade. It is a beautiful canyon with lots of varying colors and rock types. Plentiful wildlife. There is a waterfountain about 1 mile up the trail. Good place for a snack and rest. Once you get past here you'll see another change to more dirt instead of loose rock trails. Also the creek suddenly will have water in it. Multiple bridges cross back and forth over it. I haven't hiked all the way up to the campground above the canyon but the trail goes that far and connects to trails to Cascade Peak, Provo Peak and even Y mountain. Rock climbers love the sheer faces at the mouth of the canyon and there are almost always...
