Definitely a hidden gem on the coast of Isabela! But one you must come prepared for! There is no paved parking lot, so you will be driving and parking over sand (it's fairly compacted, so most if not all cars should be fine). Make sure you have shoes because there is absolutely no shade and the sand gets brutally hot. I would also highly suggest you have something to sit on the sand with and something you can sit under. Sunscreen is a must. We weren't there for longer than 1.5 hours (swimming the majority of the time) and my thighs were burned pretty good.
I wouldn't consider the ocean itself safe to swim in, but the pozo is protected by rocks and is very calm and cool as cold water pushes into it frequently. The water is very clear and great for snorkeling (lots of tiny fish!). It has varying degrees of depth, but nothing too deep. I have gone on the weekends, and it is never truly crowded. I visit this beach every single time I visit PR. I also suggest visiting on the weekends as there is a kind gentleman down the street that sells fresh, chilled coconuts with eco-friendly turtle saving straws called "Coco Truck PR" that is perfect for...
Read moreThis was definitely the most amazing beach we went to during our time in Puerto Rico. We went on a weekday afternoon and there were maybe 10 people on the entire beach. On the large beach area further down there were huge waves, but the rocks here break the waves leaving a wonderful calm pool that everyone enjoyed swimming in for a long time. You can see tiny beautiful tropical fish swimming around below you. On a few of the rocks that stick out of the water we found little crabs, snails, etc. holding on to the rocks. If you are more adventurous you can climb on the larger rock formations and explore the tide pools, just watch out for the big waves! Free parking, no facilities, shade is pretty far away from the water, so I recommend bringing a beach umbrella if you have one and a snorkeling mask or goggles is a big plus for...
Read moreBeautiful, big beach with gorgeous views and a large tidal pool that, depending upon conditions and the tide, is gorgeous for swimming.
To arrive, drive the hardened sand and park before it deepens, then walk to the boardwalk which takes you over the dune. You’ll see an incredible beach and the large pool.
Bring shade, reef-safe sunblock, chairs, and a cooler because you will not want to leave. You won’t find shade here or trees anywhere near the water, so...
