What a butte!
This place is delightful to explore a We parked at the 2nd parking lot and started up Pine Ridge Trail Loop toward the summit. The ascent to the top is around 650 feet (It is a challenging climb if your body is not accomstomed.) We hiked the eastern trail to the summit. The western trail is steeper with all the switchbacks.
For a longer hike (1 extra mile), one could take the primitive trail that spurs off the eastern trail and reaches the summit from a different direction (It is not marked on the map.)
Once the summit is reached, one can explore in many directions to see sights in the distance (Moscow, Pullman, Moscow Mountain, and Steptoe Butte are all visible from the top.)
There is also a picnic table at the summit, which is a nice touch.

For these hot days we’re having, I highly recommend bringing water, especially if...
