My visit to Otium Cellars at Purcellville was nothing short of delightful. From the moment I stepped onto the property, I was greeted with warmth and a sense of tranquility that truly matched its address. First off, let's talk about the culinary offerings. The lobster roll they serve is a culinary masterpiece. Succulent, tender lobster meat cradled in a perfectly toasted bun – it was a taste of seaside bliss in the heart of Virginia wine country. Now, onto the wines – where do I even begin? The rose wine at Otium Cellars is not just good, it's exceptional. Its delicate blush color and refreshing taste make it the perfect companion for a sunny afternoon on the winery's picturesque grounds. But the real star of the show for me was the blaufränkisch. This wine is a rare gem, boasting Australian and German varieties that are seldom found on the East Coast. Its complex flavors and smooth finish had me reaching for another glass before I even finished the first. And let's not forget about the grüner veltliner – a personal favorite of mine when it comes to white wines. Otium Cellars' grüner veltliner is everything I love about this varietal and more. Crisp, aromatic, and bursting with notes of citrus and green apple – it's a true testament to the winery's dedication to quality and craftsmanship. Overall, my experience at Otium Cellars was nothing short of exceptional. From the delectable cuisine to the outstanding wine selection, it's clear that this winery is a hidden gem in Virginia's wine country. I can't wait to return and indulge in their offerings once again. Cheers to Otium Cellars for an unforgettable experience!

A lovely winery featuring established German wines, which is rare in Virginia. Scenic views of surrounding hills and vineyards and a variety of seating both indoors and outdoors on the expansive patio with fire pits for cooler weather. The winery is family friendly and dogs are allowed outside on the patio. There are two friendly winery cats in residence who will come up for scritches and attention: We tried the German/Austrian wine tasting and the chocolate wine pairing featuring chocolates by The Conche in Leesburg. I must say, the German wines are outstanding - the Gruner Veltliner is juicy and crisp but not too sweet perfect with the strawberry and black pepper white chocolate. Similarly, the Blaufrankisch with its cherry notes and soft tannins paired beautifully with the cherry and pistachio filled chocolate. We also enjoyed the soft pretzel twist that comes with a delicious mustard dip that has a good horseradish kick to it. They also serve pizza and other food which we didn’t try.

Sounds like under new onership. Im sure much more understanding people. Perhaps we can give it another go this summer. Boycott this place! Worst experience ever at a winery! I am a person with a disability and have a small service dog. We were the only people in the place yet the employee could barely acknowledge we were there. Then she saw my service dog and very rudely told us dogs were not allowed and had to go! When I tried to tell her it is a service dog and actually illegal to ask us to leave, but she wouldn't listen and actually said she didn't care that it has to go! We left angry at being discriminated against and in shock at her ignorance! We wont be back, and I would encourage everyone else to not support a place with such terrible customer service. I will be contacting the owner! *Update, we did have several correspondances with owner or management, and also got the blow off. Really terrible. Many great places to go to nearby, dont waste time here!

We showed up an hour before closing time. Asked if we could still do a tasting and the bartender said “unfortunately yes.” Towards the end of our tasting there was a woman behind the bar that we stuck up a conversation with. I asked how her day was and she said terrible. I then asked if there was anything that could make it better and she said “if you all would leave.” She said that they stopped serving at 7:30pm which no one told us that when we walked in or as we were doing our tasting. There were still several other customers there enjoying wine. When the other bar tender came over to see what was going on she denied telling us that she wanted us to leave. I requested that we get our check and we left.

I have never been treated so badly before by a business. I had family in town and was showing them around the great wineries in Virginia and we were not welcomed from the time we stepped in the door. I will never be going back to this place nor do I recommend it to anyone. After we left we ran into an older couple outside who said that they have had the same issues with this woman. She has been rude to them and doesn’t make them feel welcome at all either....
