After visiting this farm, I was very disappointed with the experience I had.
Firstly, I was disheartened by the quality and size of the strawberries in the row I was assigned to. The berries were noticeably lower in quantity and considerably smaller compared to what I had expected. After telling my concerns to the staff and asking to change rows, they just replied that it may be true and on the middle of the row I will get more. Unfortunately, it wasn’t true and by the end of the row I barely picked a half of the bucket.
Secondly, I was surprised and disappointed to find out that snacking on strawberries during the picking process was not allowed. I’ve been on many farms before and it was the first time that this a rule. I understand the need to maintain the quality and integrity of the berries, but strawberry picking is part of the fun and a family activity. It totally killed the experience. If you are that afraid that I will eat too much then increase the prices or lower the bucket size. Otherwise, I can just go to the any grocery store, and it be the same experience.
Lastly, the staff was unfriendly and when we left no one said goodbye to us or thank you for visiting. The entire experience left me not wanting to return for strawberries or pumpkins and made me question why I drove so far for this...
Read moreRequires a reservation but this is not made clear on their webpage, and they make absolutely no exceptions. The main page says "U-pick strawberry reservations are open and available;" if reservations are mandatory it needs to clearly state that, otherwise it reads as though they are optional. It is ridiculous anyway to require a reservation. I've been to many pumpkin patches/strawberry picking farms and I've never heard of mandatory reservations. Since we didn't have one, we were turned away even though they weren't that busy and could have easily accommodated us. Why wouldn't they want our money? Speaking of which, $30 for bucket is a complete racket. Finally, at the time we were there it was run entirely by teenagers. The oldest kid there was a junior in high school, probably 17. When I asked to speak to a manager/adult, they told me they didn't know where she was, that maybe she was at the other farm. If not some kind of labor law violation, I think it is at a minimum unacceptable, unsafe, and poor business practice to only have children on the premises running your operation with zero adult...
Read more{This review is for the Oatland location} For those that read my reviews know that when I shell out 6 or 7 or 8 star ratings, it means these places are absolutely a must-try for the introverted and wannabe gourmands. Wegmeyer strawberry picking is undeniably a 7 star activity. So thank you Wegmeyer for giving the community (actually the suburbs) an enriching activity that city goers have no idea what they are missing. Just look at the 🍓 pics.....the ripeness is just 😎 blindingly red 😋. And since they are Chandler's, the flavor is just unmatched compared to any fresh strawberries at super-premium-markets (... You know the ones I'm talking about...). These tiny morsels of flavor stay fresh for 36 hours after picking before they start to dry out....... but we always pick more than we can eat so we can make refrigerator jam (ingredients: Chandler berries, sugar, 2 tbsp water... That's it) which gives us the taste of Chandler's all...
