What a wonderful experience! The staff is warm and extremely knowledgable, the wolves gorgeous and tame, and the facility large and comfortable. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience to get so close to these proud and beautiful creatures. They were all rescues, raised in captivity. Some/most seemed to be wolf-dog hybrids, all were lovely. We loved the informational videos and the history, too, although the wolf presentation part went a bit long. The founders are extremely respectful of the animals as you might expect, yet are aware that their visitors want to take photos with them, so there are quick photo ops, and a couple of lucky volunteers might find a wolf climbing all over you! Never was anyone in any danger, and everyone is given a primer on how to engage with them. At only 1.5 hours out of L.A., this experience was well...
Read moreI was really disappointed with my entire experience. Shadowland keeps wolves and hybrids as pets. This is not a sanctuary, it’s a private home owned by people who seem to love their wolves/wolf dogs but aren’t doing anything to promote their return or introduction to the wild, where they belong. There was an hour-long “talk” that was incredibly self-involved and consisted of material that can be found by Googling “wolves.” They’ve trained the animals like you would a dog, and offered ample opportunities for the wolves to sit still and take pictures with the visitors. I felt like the owners sat around their kitchen table looking for a way to collect money to support their wolf habit and came up with some asinine reason like dispelling the wolf myth. It was not only disappointing but upsetting, draining and really sad. Huge...
Read moreI loved this place. Colette was very pleasant and knowledgeable and of course the wolves were awesome. Interacting with the wolves was a unique experience and well worth the money but don't be surprised that the wolves are not that big. These are Alaskan timber wolves and they look especially small in the summer because they shed their coats. We slept over and their howling is something else it was similar to white noise but better it gives you a feeling like when you wake up to birds singing and you know it's going to be a good day. I am definitely going back next year and next time...
