D. Ray Hovartter, Barbara (his wife) and their 3 daughters lived in 2 trailers at the site from 1951 to 1974. Their eldest daughter Barbara was badly burned when a propane tank exploded May 18 1968. She died on June 29 1968. She is buried on the hill. Ray was born on November 22 1897 and died at the homestead on November 16 1974. He is also buried on the hill. Barbara was born on December 11 1910. She moved to Phoenix when Ray died. She died on December 10 1992 Gold was first discovered in the wash in the 1930’s by a mining engineer and friend of Ray.
