This was my first and possibly last time at this beach. My aunt, uncle, and cousins came over from Chicago to visit and they wanted to go to the beach. The first beach they visited was Matagorda and they loved how it was, clean. However, the beach in question, it was just plain dirty. The people who visit are just plain dirty and have no consideration for others. Trash is left behind by them, no security to check the beach, they charge to enter and yet have no one to force people to clean up after their mess. Beer bottles and fast food left overs all over, used discarded plastics near the water, portable potties were flipped over, and the water is dirty. My family entered the beach and came out with tar on their feet, on their new swim suits and shorts, it was the worst experience for me and them. I should have heeded all the warnings acquaintances have warned me about. One warning was from an Indian man, who said that this beach resembles the one from India. Dirty, brown waters, with fecal waste, and trash in the water. He mentioned that the drunken men and dirty disorderly families tend to leave their trash behind. And I finally confirmed it. Aside from it being trashy, all entrances are poorly kept. We counted 19 cars in one hour that were stuck in the sand. The county needs to either flatten out that sand or make a concrete entrance/exit. The county needs to close the beach, thoroughly clean up the trash, build actual bathrooms, a place where people can rinse off the sand off their feet or bodies like Matagorda, build that concrete ramp, have security, hire life guards to not only assist people, but also to radio police officers on polluters, and give a huge fine to the chemical companies for polluting the waters. If there is tar at the beach, imagine the chemicals that are being pumped into the ocean and that are coming back to the shore. The worst beach we have ever been to. I do not...
Read moreThe beaches here have been great in the past. However, as of recently the police presence has become more of a nuisance. I went for my birthday to celebrate with my family. The weather was a still not the best, just a little chilli. There was plenty of distance between each beach goers setup. However, the police kept going back and forth in an aggressive manner. They almost brushed up on our canopy at high speeds. I suppose to see what we were doing. Later the cops showed up next to our canopy and immediately started handing us tickets for glass bottle. My younger brother and I did have a glass bottle in our hands. However, the way the cop immediately started yelling and handing out tickets was a bit of a surprise. As if he had told us before, but he did not. Then he proceeded to tell us that someone else had a glass bottle. We didn't know who he was referring to. At that point my older brother came back from the porta potty and didn't know what was going on. The cop immediately asked for his license and my brother asked why. Then the cop started yelling and telling him to not come any closer, while putting one hand on his gun, even though he was standing in place. The cop came off as someone with a napoleon complex. He wouldn't allow my brother to ask why he was being given a ticket. The cop wrote him a ticket regardless of culpability. I have gone to this beach multiple times but now it seems the county or city is more interested in cashing in on beach goers rather than actually protecting and serving. I can't help but shake the idea that there was prejudice behind this cops motivations. Meanwhile his partner was just laughing and making it a game. She was quite unprofessional while her male counterpart showed no restraint or the right temperament to be a police officer. For those wondering...each ticket is $233 + fees. FOR...
Read moreSo I live about 30 min away .. took me an extra 9 minutes to get there because of the traffic that's trying to get into Surside coming from Hwy 332. When you get there there is tons of algae and debris. Mostly driftwood [lots of it] right on the beach. So you have to park on the dunes side or on top of the debris. It was packed on a Saturday afternoon in June. I could not find an appropriate spot to park. Mostly because I don't want to be too close to other parties, I like my space. So I had to drive on Bluewater hwy and take the last beach access thats closer to St Luis pass. There was plenty of room and not much of people, cars, buggies and dogs running around. No portable toilets either. There was plenty of algae still but not to much debris. The water was warm and sort of clear (no snorkeling poor visibility) and the waves were medium to small. Had a good relaxing time.. I'm hoping to go back again next week just to go hear the waves and read a good book.. I think it deserves 5 stars but I took one off for the algae and the lack of portable johns. .. oh i almost forgot: Do not forget the sunblock. Texas sun is unforgiving. Just a...
