Appalachia Trailhead provides access to a number of trails in the northern end of the Presidential Range. The parking is along US-2 a few miles west of Gorham. The trailhead is very popular and it fills up early, but parking is allowed along the side of the highway. We took our dog for a hike here to visit some waterfalls. Fallsway Trail heads up along Synder Brook, passing four named waterfalls in under a mile. Tama Falls is especially beautiful. We then hiked over to Cold Brook Falls, about a mile. It was another really pretty waterfall, about 20 feet high. The total hike was about 2.5 miles and pretty easy, especially for how nice the scenery was. And although the parking lot was overflowing (even though we arrived at 7), we only saw one or two other people on the trails. Its a beautiful location and I'd like to explore more if I ever come back...
Read moreAmazing. I took a few different trails as part of the terrifying 25. Super terrifying. Need full gear. Aggressive crampons, microspikes, heavy gloves, goggles, hiking poles and an ice axe, snowshoes are optional but useful. Had no views, snow all day, really windy at the top. Especially the Chemin des Dames, I descended it then ascended it right after and continued on to gulf side then to great gully down to king ravine back to short line then to airline again and to the parking lot. Amazing hike. Started at 5:15 am and ended around...

So always have a map available to know where you are going when hiking the presidentials and check trail conditions before heading out. My favorite route from this trailhead to the Summit of Mt Adams is the short line up the King Ravine trail (passing through the subway and ice caves of course) then heading up to bag Adam’s and back down the Air Line Trail to...
