I took a work contract in Vermont and was watching youtube videos on people's Vermont travels. One video stated, "This is the only place you'll need to stop for a maple farm." That couldn't have been more true. I had plans to go to others but honestly, was so floating from this experience I never did. I travel single and am often ignored. It wasn't busy. I was the only person. But the sweet sweet lady treated me like a queen. I was given a full tour with personal undivided attention - from being shown how they make maple, to be helped in the shop. I got right up close and took great pictures and videos. It was out in the country, and as is true in Vermont, I thought GPS was crazy and I was lost. But it was beyond worth going off the beaten path. No waiting for a group. It was so fun, one of the absolute highlights and best experience in my four months in Vermont. As a farmgirl I can attest, there are real honest hardworking beautiful farm family/peoples. Thank you for not caring I was traveling alone and being so...
Read moreI could not possibly say enough good about this family run maple syrup farm. My husband and I stopped earlier today as we were wrapping up time in Vermont on a NE road trip.
The staff was wonderfully welcome and happily took us on a tour answering any and all questions we had about the process of making syrup. It was crystal clear how passionate she was about her work and her joy was infectious.
Adorable farm dog that sat on my feet after I showed it some love during our tour. ❤️
I'm fairly certain by the time we left, my husband wanted to come back in the spring to "intern" a few days just to learn more about the process. 😝 We wrapped it up with a maple syrup tasting, had the best maple creemee of my life and left with syrup and maple cream.
Second only to sumitting Mt Mansfield as our favorite stop of our entire Vermont trip.
Go see them! You...
Read moreAfter carefully selecting a maple farm where you could see not just the products and the process but also the trees, we were thrilled with our visit to Silloway Maple! In fact, it is a highlight of our 5 days in Vermont. As soon as we asked about a tour, the matriarch began to show and tell us the processes that lead from their maple trees to their sugar house, the osmosis system that saves energy, the wood burning boiling system, the classifications, and various products. She also shared about the work in each season and the family members who do it, and their solar powered sugar house. Various samples were generously offered. And we were delighted to buy not just maple syrup for ourselves but gifts for family and friends. While my husband enjoyed a maple creamee, we were able to walk trails to see their maple trees and system. A picturesque...
