Hunterdon County Library — Attraction in Raritan Township

I would have left a 5 star review here. The facility and most of the people are absolutely amazing. However the one person who appears to be in charge, Sandy, unfortunately has an extremely abrasive and antagonistic personality.

I was scheduled to volunteer on their makers day event in March 2025. I was supposed to show up at 9:15 and take a test, then upon passing that I would teach soldering from 10am to 4pm. I had planned my weekend around this and even arranged an over night stay because it's a far drive.

Sandy supposedly texted another instructor for the event saying that because I didn't show up for the test (which was still scheduled 10 hours in the future) that I would not be welcome to assist for the event. Because I received no direct communication I decided it would be best to show up and speak in person.

When I showed up on time Sandy would not even let me speak. She was extremely rude and antagonistic, speaking over me when I attempted to say anything. She told the other volunteer next to me that they are welcome to help, then pointed at me and said sharply that I wasn't.

For the sake of de escalation I walked away and enjoyed a few good conversations with other staff before departing.

I really hope the guests here are assisted by the other staff, the rest of the people here are wonderful and want nothing but to help. The facility is great and can offer many educational activities for anyone attending. If any staff reads this, please do your best to make this facility great for others. It has so much potential and I would hate for people to be turned...

An hour ago i visited along with my daughter abd her two boys for collecting few books. The staff were very courteous and extending help to select the required books. Adult section, childred section with different categiries, alphabet wise were arranged. I find the books are very interesting. I can quote Sri Swamy Vivekananda's quote here- the library will privide only the books and they are not intelligent. People who read alone can change...

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single reader in possession of good knowledge, must be in want of a book. And here is the place for you. There are so many books I can’t even wrap my head around it. There are stem things down stairs and kids stuff upstairs.
