only getting four stars and here is why. the far rice/marsh trail is still washed out. it needs more that a sign that says trail closed. how about a signage that says "trail washed out from a storm, repairs are dependent on donations and congress approving a grant" or something like that 2.the trails are not marked well. when i get to a four way intersection which way do i go when the sign post only has 3 directions hard to follow paper map and sign post. they don't hit the mark, could be better symmetry between both
overall it was great, i would suggest if you have small children and want to keep them alive that you stay to the swamp board walk, and woodland and not venture to the Rice fields or Marsh area. there are some big alligators that hide along the 15 foot wide mowed path. 1 saw one belly slide , over by the bald eagle nest and a couple told us a big mama blocked the trail. also heard what I thought was a large animal moving into the water, also over by the bald eagle nest. we did see a bald eagle, some other birds and an 6 foot...
Read moreWhere is the 10 star option?? This place was AMAZING! The Nature Center was SO cute - our 1.5 year old ran around while we looked at the displays and he loved the âTouchâ station with lots of things he could feel and play with (turtle shells, snake skin, etc.). The trails were SO well done, easy to follow, fun to link up and connect. And we saw so much wildlife - alligators (12â babies, teenagers, adults - bigger and smaller), turtles, birds, really neat birds, frogs/toads, snakes! And this place was cool!! You could go from an old rice marsh to a dense forest in a matter of ten feet - I donât think weâll ever see anything else like it. It was incredible! And the park staff are so friendly - they helped us identify the snakes we saw and chatted with us about our trip. All around, this place was such a gem - and it was $2/adult, talk about affordable! They had a shop with patches, ornaments, and lots of other cool souvenirs too. And we had a picnic lunch packed and we ate at picnic tables nearby the parking lot....
Read moreDefinitely a hidden gem in the Charleston area! A non-expensive place (maybe $2 a person?) that we had passed multiple times going out to Edisto, finally decided to try it. We went on a weekend and it still wasnât very packed to the point where we couldnât enjoy ourselves. A lot of miles to hike, which werenât very challenging for people with children. There were some forest trails that were a bit more challenging for people who enjoy hiking, but they are optional! Beautiful wildlife, especially for bird watchers; even saw a rabbit and harmless snakes! Was a bit disappointed that there werenât too many alligators out, but there are other places around the Edisto area to find them. Also, has a lot of neat history for people to learn about Charlestonâs rice crop and war involvements, especially in the main...
