This has been on my short list of falls to visit in PA. It's close to home and the weather was beautiful so why not! Easy 45 minute drive from Butler. Sad to say, all people do not have the same respect for nature that my Family and I do. As we pulled into the small parking lot at the falls, the 1st thing that caught our attention was the amount of garbage that was left laying on the ground. Empty pop cans, bottles and an empty case of beer among other things. My mind went back to a tv commercial from the 70's where a native American Indian shed a tear at the site. Well, I'm happy to say we travel prepared for such things and took a minute to clean things up. After washing our hands with handi wipes we proceeded to enjoy the area. Nice flat, well maintained main trail for walking and biking. No motorized vehicles allowed. No camping allowed. No public restroom/outhouse at the falls. Side trails lead down to the water. I love the sound of the water cascading over the rocks in many areas along the trail. Very peaceful. If you decide to take trails down to the water, wear proper foot gear and perhaps a trekking pole to assist in safe navigation of the rocks and hillsides. I'm looking forward to going back in the Fall/Winter! Be safe, enjoy and if you feel so inclined, pack a garbage bag to help keep the area looking beautiful!

The park is very beautiful, open to the public, the waterfalls were absolutely stunning.. and the water was perfect. The only downfall is the trash people leave behind. It's completely disrespectful, lazy and just utterly disgusting. I plan on bringing my trash grabbers and some bags on my next trip, but that shouldn't be mine or anyone else's responsibility. Please, if you are visiting this spot, at the very least take your trash with you.. and consider taking some off the trail back with you, to a receptacle. Every bit helps. Keep it clean and beautiful, respect the land and everyone around you, before they start charging admittance or close it to the public all together. Also consider wearing water shoes. We did not and we were fine.. but because of the glass and trash on the trail, I would not be surprised if someone sliced a foot in those waters :( * added. In response to those who couldn't find the fall, from the parking lot take the somewhat hidden trail UPWARDS. Against the flow of the water. There are some small rapids, swimming holes and small falls down the trail, but the bigger fall and swimming hole is upstream.

Absolutely beautiful hidden gem! So peaceful and quiet. Great walking trails along the falls. You can even do some rafting. There are even places to camp right next to the falls but you need permission first before you camp. It's a bit tricky to find because the GPS will just lead you to the end of the road. If u happen to get to the end of the road where the boat/car park is, turn back, drive about a mile and take the first sharp turn to the right, drive about another mile and you will see the falls. Make sure u park on the sharp left. Dont enter the gates as it's a walking trail. Definetly recommend and a must see.

Had a great time I never did find the falls but I did meet a really cool raccoon named Estoban Fraunch. He owns a small delicatessen in Blawnox but comes up regularly Just to decompress from "CITY LIFE." Originally from the woods of Kittanning he joined the Navy and after 20yrs of Service he decided to come back to PA with his LBFM (Philipino) wife and two kids. As a raccoon you could imagine he caught a lot of grief for marrying an LBFM but love is love Long story short- some opossum from Tarentum stole my wallet - Estoban found him hiding in a tree stump, beat him with a hickory stick with little mercy and returned with my wallet leaving Mr crooked pants in a pool of his own blood and urine. We've been chatting ever since and are planning a trip to the Philippines next year. HELLOOOOO PING PONG BALLS!

I'll definitely be back to Buttermilk with my good friend Estoban Fraunch and...
