My grandson and I just love the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center. We have been there at least 10 times, I have been taking him since he was 2. He knows the place well and is so excited when I tell him he is to see a musical, the ballet or a band at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center.
This place has free parking, which is such a plus and the entire exterior is kept spotless. It is in a great location in Redondo Beach and you can get to it using the 405 or simply taking Manhattan Beach Blvd.
There are some nice places to dine nearby and if you have time you can get to Manhattan Beach and have dinner right on the water and then drive up (east) Manhattan Beach Blvd. to the theater.
Tickets can be bought on line and can be printed out or grab them at Will Call which always has it together. They have everything from family musicals to the great LA Ballet Company and a few bands stop there on tour.
The place is not huge so there really is not a bad seat in the house, but of course the orchestra area is the best. Once there you will give your tickets to nice person, likely working for Allied Universal, a responsible security company or the staff of the theater who are just so kind. The management of the theater is also wonderful. His name is Jack Meyer and if there is ever a problem, and there won't be, he will deal with it.
Inside is the lobby which is large and also ever so clean. The bathrooms are maintained well. There is some seating to wait for doors. They have limited concessions, so if you are hungry have dinner first. Right now, all food and beverage is consumed outside on their lovely patio. This will change if Covid ever decides to just leave us all. You must be vaccinated to get in and wear a mask, which I so appreciate. You can also show a negative Covid test if you are not vaxed.
The seating is comfortable and kept clean. The stage is large and again, there really is not a bad seat in the house.
Our last visit was to see the family musical Descendants, put on by a semi-professional, not for profit organization called Encore. Kids love their shows and adults do as well. We are seeing the LA Ballet Company next month and can't wait. They are amazing.
I suggest instead of just using the Redondo Beach website, which includes the theater, also follow what you want to see. Encore has a great website and all their musicals are family friendly. The LA Ballet Company also has its own site where you can get tickets. And if you are just driving by, stop, they may have seats at a show that is starting. I have seen it sold out a few times, but usually there are seats, even at the last minute.
Have the best time. See you at the theater. And for those of you who know me on Yelp, this place is Buddy approved. He loves it....

Read moreI was here for our 2024 annual event to see The Chocolate Nutcracker. Parking due to a tent in the parking lot was offsite and took additional minutes. The performance had started, and two older "church" ladies were in our seats when we arrived. So we took other seats. At intermission, one removes her wrap and prepares to leave it on her seat. I promptly whispered to the lady seated next to me you are in our seats. As she stood up, the other one said, "They don't want to switch?" My partner said no, we wanted to sit in our purchased seats. He knew when we arrived, and the usher walked us to our seats; the two ladies had taken our seats. I did not. But I could tell by their guilty stiff posture, they were "entitled seat stealers" who didn't want to give up great end seats.
Adding to the unfairness, my view of the first act was completely obstructed by a very tall person seated in front of me. This was a significant disappointment, as it meant I had zero visibility of the performance. To prevent such incidents in the future, I suggest implementing a seat management system where staff ensures these entitled individuals are quickly and quietly removed by staff before...
