First off, dogs and bikes are NOT allowed on this trail. It's great that it has a lot of loops to hike, so you don't have to retrace your steps. Beautiful views of hills and sky, views overlooking the bay. Lots of trails have good shade, though some of them are mostly sunny. Wear sunscreen and bring a hat!

Abundant wildlife--I regularly see up close deer, western fence lizards, and little bunnies. I've also seen jack rabbits, snakes, skinks, and coyotes on more than one occasion. It seems like coyote encounters are more likely closer to the park's closing time, as it gets dark, so if you want to avoid them, hike earlier. In my experience they haven't been aggressive, but you never know.

There's a porta potty at the entrance, but no other bathrooms and no drinking fountains.

Park on the neighborhood streets. There's usually plenty of parking nearby.

The things that aren't as good about the Sunset Trail are that some of the trails take you to places where you can see and hear the freeway and power stations, which takes away from the beauty of nature. The trail starts by power station, and there's one by the freeway. The other thing is, I'm partial to a trail with a creek, and this doesn't have one. But, that's just my...

A great park. Also this is the premier location for entering said park. You start off with excellent views and don't have to climb a bunch of switchbacks to get to the good stuff.

I've also seen the fuel break work along the perimeter which is much appreciated. Personally I would like the park system to go farther and put some sort of property tax on the ballot like Marin County. I would like the entire park to be managed for wildfire and not just a hundred foot perimeter. Much of the vegetation is very dense and quite...
