We were on a road trip and I saw a sign for Sandy Oak Ranch so we decided to stop. Had no expectations going in. We went in the morning when the zoo first opened. The first part of the ranch is the drive thru safari. It should be noted that the animals are in enclosures, so it's not the type where they come right up to the window. The second part was the farm area, which was really cool! We were able to feed goats, emus, a baby cow, and other animals. They also let us hold baby goats and a baby duck! There were also a variety of other animals, including free range peacocks. For a fee we were able to hold a baby alligator. We met the owner as we were walking around. He was very friendly and made sure we were taken care of. Overall we had a great time and would return.

We went on a hot afternoon. Many of the animals were being lazy and trying to stay cool. We still had a blast. There are plenty of animals. Don't just do the drive. Get out and walk around. You won't regret it. Still a work in progress. They are on their second season. But this is a great way to spend a couple hours seeing animals you won't get to see often, if ever. Feeding the gators was an extra charge, but that was fun as well. Met one of the owners, Josh. Good guy. Make a day of it, come here in the morning. Feed some goats. When you are down here, head down to Kankakee sands and have a picnic, and then go see the buffalo there and take a hike on the Grace Terringa trail.

Who knew it’s been 4 years this amazing place has been here? Everyone should know! From answering questions I had through emails so promptly, to just the whole experience!!! What an awesome place! The staff was so friendly, if they were walking by, they always made sure to say hello with a smile, from all the animals, some just majestic to look at and some just so darn adorable! Thank you SOR for making my time with my elderly mom so fun and a great new memory to cherish.

My family and I visited this zoo on Saturday, and we were pleasantly surprised—there was no wait to get in! It’s the perfect destination for children and those who prefer a shorter walking distance.

We loved the drive-thru experience, but the biggest surprise was the walking section. Peacocks and turkeys roam freely, adding to the unique charm of this place. There are plenty of spots to sit and take in the beautiful surroundings, making it easy to relax and enjoy the view.

This is not your typical zoo—I saw animals I’ve never encountered before! It’s evident that the animals are well cared for, and you can truly feel the love the owners have for them. As a family-owned zoo, they create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The owners are incredibly sweet, and the best part? You can even hold a goat—how...
