Blew a tire 1/4 mile away while traveling by motorcycle , no cell service for many miles in any direction on my 51st birthday/ saterday at 5:30 pm, amazingly I was able to send out a text message to my family in bend who magicly appeared 6 hours later to rescue us . The place offered delicious apples and pears for dinner and a beautiful sunset. The only photos I got was the strange device across the road and the nice 3 point buck that came for the fruit buffet

We had read a Facebook post stating that the last open day of the season would be on 10/1/23. We rearranged our travel plans to make sure we could visit, but when we arrived, it was closed. There is no explanation as to why. Others arrived feeling frustrated, too. The good thing was that you could still walk around the property and down to the John Day River if the house is closed. Great area to picnic.

The house looked really cool from the outside. We went on a weekend because that's when the house was supposed to be open according to the website, but when we got there it was closed a little disappointing but we just checked out the other sites in the area. Definitely need to update the hours of operation.

So nice to take a beautiful drive thru the Ochoco National Forest, then stop and explore the fascinating Cant Ranch, bring lunch, take a rest, then drive home. Makes for a great day long adventure. Not crowded. While there, read about the historic Cant family and try to imagine what it would have been like to keep it all going. Amazing!! Only downside: No restrooms! The porta-potties that are usually there have been removed. Hopefully they'll...

Good spot to stop and picnic. Plenty of shaded grassy areas for kids to stretch & play before hitting the road again. The house isn't open (likely due to COVID-19), but there is enough to check out outside. There is a trail that leads to the river, but nothing significant. There are benches & a picnic table just before the river so for those who enjoy privacy or solitude is works, but the place wasn't necessarily busy. There is RV...
