Gorgeous grounds, stayed here first half of May (before insects/mosquitoes get really bad in June and July), Spring aromas from all the flowering trees were everywhere & delicious!!, sites well spaced, sites have electric & water (NOT full hookup as someone else mentioned in a review), most have varying degrees of privacy bushes/hedges on one or both sides of each site, the highway settles down at night and shouldn't keep you awake in the wee hours (my husband is a very light sleeper and he had no problems), cottonwoods were dropping tens of thousands of those golden yellow STICKY shells/husks so those were all over the ground and sticking to your shoes and going in the motorhome (ah well!), dump station was good, but no potable water at the station (potable water = spigot at each campsite), bathrooms were clean, showers have 2 problems: WATER REEKS OF IRON (you can smell it, but the water is not discolored & it didn't leave us smelling like iron), AND the same glob of hair stuck to the shower wall was there for 3 days, at least. And a few other things that should have been cleaned up on a daily basis. Gross. Otherwise, a MAGNIFICENT...
Read moreWe needed a place to stay on very short notice after driving 7 hours from Reno only to have a huge problem with the hookups at Silvie’s (no power or water and we weren’t expecting or prepared to boondock). Not the luxury accommodations we had planned, but a total lifesaver. We were able to drive in and stay for 2 nights without advanced reservations. Level sites. Water and power hookups with no problems, and a dumping station. The park is exquisitely maintained. The park host, Roger, was very hospitable and helpful. He knew all about the problems at Silvie’s and said quite a few people have mentioned it. I wish we knew before talking the 7 hour drive! Fire pits at each site. Firewood is available for $6 a bundle. It’s just a very relaxing little public campground with friendly people. Check out Strawberry Mountain, Magoon Lake, John Day Fossil Bed, and the Painted Hills while you stay. Avoid RVing...
Read moreWhat a beautiful park! It’s 10/7 as I write this and fall is here. The grounds are lovely with many trees for shade and green grass all around. Everything is clean and the sites are long with a very good distance apart from each other. I understand that new paving was put in earlier this summer and it shows. Our site, and it looks like all, are perfectly level and contain a picnic table and fire pit with a grate for cooking. The restrooms and showers are the best I’ve seen in any state park, clean, everything works, and sufficient for this size park. We enjoyed the walking trail along the John Day River and saw others out on it walking their dogs. We paid $40 for our site that includes water & electric hook-up and will dump our grey & black tanks when we leave and refill our water tank. We plan to return when we have more days to...
