Just finished a 2 day trip to Dorchester with 5 friends. I was there in March of 2023 and wanted to share my experience with these friends who by the way had never hunted with a guide and dogs or for quail. They were absolutely blown away with the total experience. First, the accommodations are private homes that are rented to guests during their stay. I could move into any one of the homes and stay for a lifetime. They are all top notch and well appointed homes. Secondly, the chef prepared meals are beyond description. The ladies that provide the meal services are very attentive to every guest and very professional. Third, Chuck (the owner) was always on site and engaged in conversation with all the guests, a true southern gentlemen. Dave (the manager) makes sure your stay is everything and more than what you expect. He is very professional and extremely knowledgeable of guns, managing the staff and managing the 5,000 acres. Kylie, is the office manager and the person you will communicate with setting up your stay at Dorchester. She can answer any questions you might have. Again she is very professional. The guides are very knowledgeable about the operation and are very easy to work with in the field. They instruct you as to how you should position yourself to the dogs when they point to get the best shot. They are also very protective of the dogs. The dogs are very well trained and stayed on point. One final point, our guide has worked there for 13 years and a total of 17 for Chuck. Other employees have worked there for many years as well. The longevity of employees I think says a great deal about the owner and management of Dorchester. I honestly cannot say enough good things about Dorchester. Just go there, you won’t be...
Read moreI just did a morning hunt at Dorchester Shooting Preserve and could not have had a better time. Chuck Gaskin and his staff have created a world class Quail shooting preserve and it showed in all aspects of the hunt. We stared the day with a wonderful southern breakfast of eggs, grits and sausage gravy with biscuits that set me up for the hunt. I was greeted by my guide for the morning (Jonny Young) and we headed off for the hunt. Dorchester has thousands of acres of great quail habitat and the location for our hunt was no exception. I have done quite a bit of preserve hunting and what sets Dorchester apart is the vast spaces, the care and attention they have given to the look and feel of the of the hunting areas and how they go about the hunt. The guides pay particular attention to safety of their clients and the dogs and make for a very enjoyable hunt. From great food and accommodations to fast flying quail, top notch dogs and friendly well trained guides Dorchester Shooting Preserve is truly a stop...
Read moreWe had the best experience, ever! It started out with a wonderful southern lunch that we were able to enjoy with Chuck and Tina. The food is absolutely delicious and the fried chicken and brownies were so good! We were then given extensive training and instruction on how to make this the best experience for us. I must brag on Harry for a minute. Harry, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and expertise with us, you are an amazing instructor and without your guidance I would not have been able to shoot the first clay! There were five of us total and four of us had never shot clays before. What a fun experience and we will definitely be back! Thanks so much, Wendy, Rocky and Lexie Reed, Skyler and Andrew Frazier from...
