Pretty decent hike on an early morning Friday of spring, yeah today. Almost did the entire outer loop from Jahnke Road to Greenvale Drive and back in 45 minutes, without seeing a single soul. A lady with a dog without a leash spoiled my alone nature shower time on the other path into the park, from Jahnke Road.

As for the hike itself, it starts on the parking lot parallel to the Chippenham parkway on the left with all the traffic noise and a few houses on the right. No restrooms or facilities anywhere in the lot. A couple of picnic tables only. There's a steep down part to a little wooden bridge over a little stream. The maze of trails starts here. I kept to the outer well used lower path till the trailhead all the way across. Counted 4 or more trails branching to the right and one to the stream on the left.

The way back I am on the upper outer trails, again hugging a few houses - private before cutting back in the woods. Some gorgeous curves make it interesting and then the bike path begins. These sections make you feel you are walking in a ravine with walls. Yup, this is a bikers dream. No wonder there's a warning not to use it after heavy rain of an inch. By now I am not thinking about any baby snakes as the first bridge tells me I am about to puff up the...

I've been to Pocahontas Park before but never knew about all the activities they offer. I definitely wasnt aware of the water park. For $23 my sons and I spent the afternoon swimming in and enjoying a nice picnic in the water park. I love have they have each section catered to a specific age bracket. They offer a section suitable for toddlers to run around in their own comfort zone. A pool for kids 8 and up and a section for experience swimmers. I'm still learning how to swim so I for the 3 feet pool to be accommodating even with a lot of people. Also they have watchful lifeguards on duty that take their job very serious. I notice things like that because I have kids and I do not know how to swim. This park have so much more then meets the eye. You can even rent cabins. With fall around the corner, I look forward to exploring other options and basking in first time experiences. I cant...

I'd appreciate more Trail markers. I went there for the first time by myself. There are many trails. I used my memory to try and remember the way I walked. However, more markers would really help. I parked on Greenvale Drive. Markers directing me back to Greenvale Drive would have greatly helped. I asked someone I encountered for help. It turned out my memory had been good and I was very close to my car. However, I strongly recommend more signage. On the way out, I actually crossed paths with an older gentleman who was obviously physically challenged. He was walking quite slowly with the assistance of a cane, BY HIMSELF. I admired his strength in getting out for a walk in the park. I hoped he didn't encounter...

A hiden gem in Richmond We drove all the way from Norfolk to enjoy this Beautiful trail Feb 12 2022 70 degrees The Trail was Amazing, the weather was great a lot of people hiking we did the outer loop this time. Took crazy amounts of pictures, the sad part is in the beginning of the trail the new house development blocked some of the trail sections and now the houses are literally at the edge of the outer loop trail, not Kool encroachment is real. But after 500yards is ok.

Besides a few picnic tables and parking spots, the trails are the only attraction in this tiny city park. I like that it first follows along the nearby Powhite Expressway before heading in to the bush. There the seclusion of the woods and hills make for a nice get away. Good for hiking & biking, you can choose an outside loop and several interconnecting trails. No views to speak of. With some backtracking, you can put in a good, satisfying hour of hiking.
