You cannot see this from the road. But we used Google maps to pull over about parallel with where the marker was. There were a couple of small turnouts on the shoulder, and when we were there one of them had an arrow made of rocks on the dirt that pointed to the memorial.
We set out in the general direction, on a dirt path that others had clearly been on. It was about a 5-10 minute walk straight out from the road. There was a little rise in the dirt, and once we passed that you could see the memorial just up ahead.
Because of a foot injury, my husband was able to drive his truck part way to the memorial on a rough dirt road/path to pick me up. Stick to the paths already trodden.
Once there you'll see the downed trunk of the actual Joshua Tree. And lots of U2 ephemera, a plaque laid in the ground, and rock art/words that people have made. There's a suitcase full of smaller/lighter bits, so if you want to leave something behind, that may be a good place to keep it from...
Read moreI'm a 40 year long U2 fan and I've been here twice. I definitely think it's worth a visit if you appreciate Rock n' Roll history. However, I'm giving this 4 stars because I can't give it 3-1/2 stars. Why? Although the background scenery for the album pics is unchanged, the tree itself is essentially gone, at least from matching it to the album. That really hurts the allure of this place. It's a sad loss to rock history and its part in the album cover of one of the genre's greatest albums.
The tree is long dead and what is left is laying on the ground. It was actually dying when the original album pics were taken, but U2 fans have plucked so many bits of it that it hastened its demise. Now, its just a dead hulk in the sand. The "fronds" are slowly getting looted and some fans have even taken a saw to it to get their souvenirs. Soon it will just be bits of the trunk left, and the only proof that U2 was here will be the plaques and nick-nacks that the...

We were in DEVA for the 2nd time this year, and decided to see Father Crowley and Star Wars canyon. Seeing on the map that the famous “Joshua Tree” was only about 20 minutes away at most, we said “well, why not?” It was christmas day and out here there really are no crowds and they stick to the other side of the park.
We parked on the side of the road, walked the short walk to the downed tree and saw just…loads of…”trash”. I say trash because while i think it was garbage left in the desert, it was peoples well wishes to U2.
It was neat because we were there, but we would never go out of our way to see this. It is literally just a downed tree with some items thrown around it, near other joshua trees, about 1/3 of a mile off of the road. If you are a u2 fan, come check it out. Otherwise, it’s probably not worth your time unless you are...
