This section of the AT (Carlo Col to Old Speck Mountain) is one of the most fun, challenging, rewarding and beautiful hikes I've been on in years. It rivals several hikes I've done in Colorado and Alaska. The ridge from Goose Eye to the South Peak gives incredible views to the West, with Adams and Washington looming in the distance. Mahoosuc Notch was a mile of technical scrambles over massive car to garage size boulders. And then Old Speck Mountain has a lookout tower on which you are rewarded with a spectacular 360 view for a good 20-30 miles. I can't wait to get...

This could be the greatest swimming hole I have ever been to. It is so much fun. We brought a few families here and had a great time. You need to be young and nimble to get in and out, and there's not an easily accessible...

Beautiful mountain stream. Perhaps a tad chilly for swimming unless you're brave, but it creates a beautiful gorge if you hike up the stream for half...
