While I'm from the other side of the river, I consider Whitetail to be my favorite "local" trail. It's only a 30 minute drive for me, which is less than a trip to Theo. It's true that Battle Creek, Carver, Salem and Leb are all a shorter trip for me, but of those, only BC gets me nearly as excited as Whitetail. Whitetail has just so much packed into it. It has great climbs that leave me nearly out of breath on the black trails, and the Grandstand jump line is great fun and a great place for progression (better for progression than Cottage Grove IMO, although CG is great too). The new DH lines look really fun too, but they were a bit too greasy last time I visited, so I didn't get a good run on them. I haven't been to the trails in Hudson, and it's been awhile since I've hit every trail in the Twin Cities, so not saying that Whitetail is the best or would be my favorite had I recently rode everything, but to date, Whitetail is my favorite place to ride within 45 minutes of St. Paul. The only thing really missing is some gnar DH, but when I need my chunk/gnar fix,...
Read moreReally nice trails with a good variety of XC, climbing and a little downhill. Trails are nicely maintained.

Granted I kind of suck at jumps but there's a very distinct difference between the little in the woods jumps and the main jump line up top of the hill with...

I would recommend mapping out your ride before you go to run a full lap of the trails. The trail builders are in the process of adding more training features at the trailhead. Easily one of the best MTB trails in the...
